Background: I have a 75 gallon tank, first marine tank, cycle finished a few weeks ago, recently had an algae explosion so I went down to the LFS and all they sell are turbo snails, I bought 3. Went through acclimation dropped all three in, two immediately went off and started eating, the third just sat right where I placed him on the sandbed. Kept checking back throughout the day and no movement, went to bed and checked in the morning and he was in the same spot but foot was now attached to the glass, and I could see a trail on the glass where he had eaten so I know he had moved. Again didn't move all day, checked the tank before bed and he was up on the glass eating. Came down in the morning and he was sitting back in the same spot on the sandbed.

Is it normal for snails to have a "home base" where they sleep? I'm not surprised he only eats at night but for him to repeatedly return to the same spot I thought was really strange, curious if this is just normal snail behavior or not.

Other question is I've read through the "choosing cleanup crew critters" thread on this forum. I would like to get a few other species of snails for the tank, how many snails total do you think I should go with assuming I keep the three turbos?

As for the snail he’s probably getting used to his surroundings. Turbo snails get really big . Do you just want just snails or other inverts like an urchin

Plan is mainly snails only other things would be an emerald crab, and a couple hermits. And yeah I'm kind of nervous about the turbos, wasn't originally going to have any but limited to what is available locally, will be ordering online next time.

Try some nassarius snails they are very active and will reproduce. I have 5 in my 15 gallon tank and offspring.
