Both of my Astraea snails shells seem to be turning white at the edges. The color is kind of pinkish, hard to see the color here. Is this an issue? All LPS SPS , softies, fish and BTA seem super happy.

Having a hard time keeping CUC. Lost two Mexican turbos, a trocus, and the hermits seem to be canibalizing each other.

Sorry for the blue photo

Parameters:
Alk: 8.6
Calcium: 475
Mag: 1300+
pH 8.3
Par: 170 at the bottom
Temp 77-78
Nitrate ~0
Phosphate ~0.06

Can be due to:
High nitrates
Hunger or starvation
Too much light
High CA

hard to tell as pics are heavy in blue lighting

Isnt that just new shell growth? Here’s an example.

I think being cautious and curious is a good approach in this hobby. Makes it more likely to catch, diagnose and solve an issue before its too late.
I'll tell that to my wife next time she tell me to stop obsessing over the tank :D LOL

Wife: "Argh - you're staring at the fish tank again?"
Me: "Honey, it's a reef tank"

Almost seems like having a mistress involves less explanation. My wife always gives me the stink eye when I’m enjoying my reef tank.

Our reef started out for my hubby as he was reminiscing about missing his 300 gallon he had years ago so I got him a 5 gallon AIO which progressed (over a period of 6 months - check our build thread) into the 125 tank we have now. I'm the one that has to be pulled away - I'm always obsessing over something, tweaking this, that or the other thing. Taking pictures - especially now that I have proper filters and a macro lens.

I wish my wife had a fraction of the interest that you have. She likes the tank just doesn’t have the same enthusiasm as I do for it.

This is great, the hobby has a reputation for being male dominated. I’m glad to know (and my wife will be too) that there are females in the hobby too. And why wouldn’t there be, right? It’s awesome!

I'm known to do to things not typically female dominated.

Due to back injury I no longer race but I was top in my age group in the nation for mountain bike racing 10 years ago, I ride a Harley - and do all my own maintenance.

I have found when I chat with local reefers and pick up frags - I rarely run across a female reefer but that's OK. I love the tank and, even with some major set-backs I have always pulled through it and gotten back on track. Just 2 weeks ago called into work sick to do an almost 100% water change because the auto doser went awry and overdosed NOPOX almost killing our baby, an 8" Sailfin Tang I got for free when someone was breaking down their tank because she needs to be an only tang due to harvesting injury causing her to lose her dorsal fin and she had severe HLLE which she still has one visible scar from.

Lol I know how you feel, I'm the only female in my family that Joined the military, Marine Corp to boot, I've worked with large animals and vets all my life. If it involves being a girly girl forget it lol. I prefer getting down and dirty and staying away from cities. :p

Sounds like you and your Sailfin have a lot in common - tough
