I set up my Evo 13.5 to be rimless - and on day 2 one of my snails decided to bail out. Luckily I saw him and put him back in the tank. Any ideas?

It wouldn't happen to be a Nerite would it? They're known for doing goofy things like this as they can seal water inside the shell and foray across land. You may not be able to keep it in there without a cover.

Most snails do it because of poor water quality or fluctuations in water chemistry. I would test your params to make sure everything is ok

Nerite snails tend to do that for some reason? I'd try different type of snail or get a cover.

Perhaps, but not if they're nerites. Nerites crawl out of everyone's tanks. Nerites are intertidal, they naturally crawl up into the air, and they need to be out of the water for a significant percentage of the time, or they will typically die of stress, drowning, or I'm not sure what. Most people who sell them either don't know their nature or know and choose not to be honest about it. Some sellers claim that the nerites will 'adjust' to your tank after awhile; some will perhaps do so but many of them won't. Unless you have a lid on your tank, you will find nerites climbing out and dead nerites behind your tank on a regular basis. I have had lots of nerites but imo they are a fairly poor choice for the home aquarium because of this behavior.

I was kinda just implying in the case if it wasn't a nerite. But yeah i don't stock nerites because of the climbing either. That and mexican turbos which are more temperate (even though I have a temperate/coldwater setup)

I think it is a nerite
Fairly small snail with compact whorls, usually white with black stripes, unless they're covered with algae, lol. I've found them feet from the tank and they really stink when they die. I stopped using them, mostly because my hermits love to murder them for the shell.
