The snails in a clean up crew should tolerate lots. Drip acclimating is not necessarily good for them. Follow the instructions from whomever you got them. Did they recommend a 4 hour drip?Thanks for the replies. I'm bummed out because I'm finally ready to start adding things to my tank and can't even keep a snail.
I'll try another in a bucket but this time I'll compare not only salinity but also mag, alk, Ca. and pH. I'll also get the snail from a different store and use a shorter acclimation.
Can someone post an article or document that this is a problem? It should be a problem but it it so often suggested that I wonder if it really is. Reason. Others say it’s a myth. Seriously curiousOne thing not mentioned is check for stray current. It's possible though it's just the long acclimation killing them if they are in a bag of ammonia. A lot of times you will see snails shipped without water so a long drip in that case is impossible.
Good thought AM, my mag is 1230.Back when Kent tech M was used to push magnesium levels upwards of 1600-1800 as a method to kill Bryopsis it was noted to remove snails prior to the increasing of magnesium. In my experience using Seachems reef fusion 1 and reef fusion 2 my tests results for magnesium are always very high. I don’t supplement magnesium any other way. In short, my experience is high mag dead snails..
I set my multitester at 200V DC, grounded the negative probe, put the positive probe in the water and got a reading of 35V, didn't expect that.
