So over the past month or so I’ve developed a gha outbreak Got my nutrients back in check nitrates 5 po4 0.04-0.06 magnesium 1340 CA 450 and noticed my snails disappear day by day.. I recently purchased turbo snails and they’ve been drip acclimated for about 2 hours. They seem sluggish and don’t move it’s been like 8 hours and they’re not active at all... previously I had bought turbo snails the same thing happened now I have empty shells. I don’t believe I have predators that kill them.. I believe it might be something with my water quality. I haven’t done a water change in probably 3 months. I haven’t tested for copper, what other things might cause my snails to die so quickly?

Why have you not done a water change? I do weekly water changes as part of my maintenance schedule. I could stretch this to bi monthly, but wouldn't want to.

In this situation - I would test for copper but also start a water changing program. If it´s possible I would change 20 % every other day for 1 to 2 weeks. Normally - I do not change water by myself but in occasions like this it´s a good idea to try to change as much water as possible - however, I prefer to do it in smaller portions. Check also for any metal contamination. Have you used any chemical compounds in your fight against gha?

Sincerely Lasse

I want to eventually go Triton method and I haven’t had issues with nutrients.. no gfo probably gonna run carbon to get my water cleaned up a bit

I sent out a Triton test I believe I will be getting my results either today or tomorrow according to the email I received. I will change out a couple gallons of water probably 5 gallons a week and see how things go

Do you have other inverts that are doing fine?
Over the years I've had tanks where I just could not have specific inverts. One tank I couldn't keep any shrimp but hermits/snails were fine. In my current tank Mexican Turbo Snails die fast but other snails do great.

If you have heavy metals , the gfo will take out many of them.

I agree , some water changes will help dilute any of the compounds that have accumulated.

Keep in mind , triton sounds cool and all, but you you have to test for a lot more stuff and dose it back in when it's depleted.
Like making your own salt every month basically.

Kits are available to make your own salt btw.

Ya I’ve checked salinity, 1.026 with Milwaukee, snails have been doing better now.. I’ve added more turbos and have done a 15% water change. Didn’t find the cause but possibly build up of stuff idk?
