Whats the difference between mexican turbo snails and astraea turbo snails? Which one is better? Which one can turn theirselves back over? Also, will a melanurus wrasse eat these?

Mexican turbos get big, like a golf ball or bigger. Awesome algae eaters.

Astreas are smaller and cheaper, but you would need more.

Both would be sort of safe with a melanurus. A large, mature male may take out any clean up crew members periodically.

I don't really have algae yet since tank is only a week old. Would it be too early to add some snails?

Trochus may be a better option for you as they basically do the same thing, but able to right themselves.
No rush on getting them yet.

Melanurus Wrasse will eat any of them (mine does) particularly when they get flipped over as neither one of them can self-right. As for which one is better? It depends on the size of the tank. If you have a 30 gallon or smaller tank, I would go with Astrea, if you have larger I would start progressively adding more Mexican Turbos. If you want a snail that will self-right go with a Trochus Snail. As for when to add them? Generally it's best to add them after the diatom bloom comes in as then they will have a food source.
