Hey there community. First time poster. I have a 90gal tank 30gal sump fish only and a 20gal waterbox AIO just live rock now. with both tank i am experiencing SNOT, yes i said SNOT in both sumps even the built in on the waterbox. I do not have this in either main display. Water parameters are perfect. Im at the point where is is clogging my equipment, skimmer on the 20gal, media reactor on the 20gal and dual reactor on the 90. ITS A WHITE TO CLEAR snot. again my water is pristine. nothing out of wack. any recommendations besides taking everything apart on a weekly basis to clear the snot. and im going through a lot of media cause it clogs up the reactors. thanks ahead for your time.

Do you have any air fresheners or any other source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) around? When I added a plug in air freshener to my living room this happened to me. Also if there is a build up of CO2 in the room it would happen on a smaller scale. Just needed to open a window.

How do I treat with peroxide? Tank has been up and running for 5 months since I moved. Live sand is new when I moved. Live rock was established in a 220g that I had before the move. Nothing else has changed.

I would dose Dr. Tims Re-Fresh when it happened to me and that cleared things up. Are you carbon dosing? If your water is pristine (ultra low nutrients) that can be a factor too. Certain bacterias become dominant when there is a lack of nutrients or biodiversity. Dinos behave this way as well. You need something to out compete it.

Peroxide? Treatment is in hair algae threads everywhere...anyway you can dose it and/or directly spot treat the area or dip the affected rocks...at the right concentrations inverts tolerate it well

Hello and welcome first time poster!

Pictures would help us diagnose the issue.

Welcome!

Edit... do you dose NOPoX? I've heard it causes snot. Sound like bacterial masses.

Yes on the nopox. Thoughts on trying the Dr Tim's refresh? Do I lower the frequency of dosing nopox or hold off all together. I know I can't have my cake and eat it too.

Yes, stop nopox for the time being. It's what causing the build up of snot. I dont know the solution for this. You can try searching nopox in this forum. Theres been many others that had the same issue as you. Sorry I cant be further help.

Yep I would reduce or eliminate dosing carbon depending on how bad it is taking over. I would definitely pick up from Re-Fresh. It is just good to have on hand anyways. Let your system build up more diversity in bacteria and organisms and then you can build up the carbon dosing, just be sure you are not bottoming out your N and P.
