What do you do to prep for a snow storm?

I tested the generator to make sure it run smoothly and did a water change.

Make sure you have plenty of water on hand and gas if your generator is gas powered. There are still people near me without power from an ice storm last week.

I would keep ethenol neutralizer around, spare oil for the generator, maybe a siphon hose in case you need to borrow some gas from your cars.

A reliable flashlight by the bed with spare batteries.

Rememeber to run ethenol free gas in your generator whenever possible. The ethenol rots out the fuel lines on the small engines among other things. Not to mention it doesn't store well. Hence "keep ethenol Neturalizer around in case you need to borrow gas from your car"

Get an extra can or two of gasoline for the generator. Majority of gas stations will be unable to pump gas without electricity.

I just filled up all my gas containers for my generator and filled up my propane tank for the fireplace just in case!! I also have a water change ready.

where can youbuy the ethenal nuetralizer?

Any advice for someone without a generator? Besides the "get a generator"- I was hoping to make it through winter but this upcoming storm has me worried.

I have a water change ready to go, I think the tank will be okay without lights, mostly worried about the stagnant water.

Bought tickets for Hawaii

Anywhere that sells automotive products like Walmart. Just look for Ethenol Stabilizers. We should be running this in all of our small engines and older vehicles. Newer vehicles are designed to use the alcohol based gas.

The better option would be to buy ethenol free gas if you can find it locally.

I am stocked up on wood and have some kerosene. If you don't have a gernerator the temperature can drop a bit. We had it happen last winter. I'm not worried about lights, I worry about the cold and water not moving. The next thing to keep in mind is to physically move some water once in awhile. Fish use oxygen and if the water isn't moving it doesn't get replaced. I was taking a small bucket and getting water from the sump and pouring it into the tank every half hour or so to get the water moving and replenish some O2.

After Sandy I bought a kit to allow my generator to run on natural gas and gasoline. I still keep 20 gallons of gas on hand for the cars because when there is no power, there is also no gas.
I bought extra firefish and torch corals to keep my tank warm.

Depending on the severity of the storm, some of the major stations will fire up a generator to run their pumps. Not completely worth counting on that though. You might be able to ask your local station if they have a generator back up system.

I asked them that, and they don't. That is why I have 20 gallons of gas for my cars and there is another 100 gallons in my boat if I really get dispirit like I did during Sandy. My two cars are also filled as is my snow blower.

I'm out west, New Hyde Park exit 34 on the LIE
