Hi everyone, I've had a snowflake eel for about a year and a half now. He's been eating normal for as long as I have had him on krill. But for the past week and a half he hasn't eaten anything and I'm really worried about him. I've tried water changes and using "entice" and nothing is working. Does anyone have any ideas?

I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you still see him around, I've had mine for about 3 years now and he does seem to go on the occasional hunger strike but he always seems to come back around, just keep offering different foods. They usually come around

Like others have said, seems snowflakes are notorious for going on fasting streaks. How often do you feed him and are you feeding him other than just krill. My jeweled eel almost comes out of the tank when I feed octopus. I feed shrimp, squid, octopus, and silversides every 3 days; as much as he wants to eat.

Krill is a good food but can be addictive and some fish refuse anything else when fed a lot of it. Variety is the key when it goes off hunger strike.

Mine has never really liked krill. I rotate silversides (favorite), shrimp, and formula one. It got to where it would't act all that interested in krill and will not take clam, oddly enough. At 3 years old it rarely goes a day without wanting to eat. Id try offering something else. It seems like I've read they'll go one to three weeks in the wild without eating.

One thing to beware of , at least in my experience, is a hungry snowflake is a rowdy animal. I had one for 11 years and it somehow squeezed through a hole that was way too small for it. Or so I thought. A super tight lid is a must.

That's true. You had a single snowflake that lived 11 years??

Yes and it was still going strong. It slithered into the bathroom and got stuck to the bottom of a rug. Can't tell you how bummed out I was...

Thanks everyone, I'll try so silversides. I've been feeding it mostly krill so hopefully he will eat silversides. He's my favorite fish so I don't want to lose him haha.

A snowflake mainly eats crustaceans, although he would likely take silversides as an occasional switch up. Most every eel I know just goes nuts for octopus and squid, shrimp would be one of the best staples for a snowflake. Strips of clams are another good choice.
