Hey R2R community,

Tank is a 13.5 gallon

Reaching out not in concern but curiosity for what one of my clownfish does when I turn the blue lights on. I have had the clowns in the tank for 2 months now and have been going through some hair algae and some cyno. A friend recommended cutting down the white from 12h on and 12h off and trying to do blue for more than half of the 12 hours. When I turn my blue on just one clownfish tends to go to this back corner and swim close to the surface almost as if he's sick or to weak to handle the current. Only does this when the blue goes on....... everything in the tank is good, and my clowns are healthy.

i seen that happen, when my lights go from white & i switch blue they get crazy. i think they see blue differently or something but they are fine .

Running on a mac :/ Video doesn't matter to much tho, its simply swimming at the surface in the corner when I turn the blue on, but when the white is on its fine. It will swim with its mate or other clownfish when just the reg white is on
I see. Maybe a clownfish behavioral psychology expert will chime in.

Just another point.. both my clowns retreat to the back corner of tank near the surface at night.

My clown does this a lot too. I think it’s a normal thing for them. Mine do it in all light though. Since they make a similar motion in anemones, which is the natural lifestyle of a clownfish, I would imagine that they are “hosting” another object, or mimicking the movement of it.

clowns will retreat to their ”safe” spot at night, the clown is probably confused with the lower intensity of the blues and thinks it’s nite time.

Appreciate the response! That would make sense that the one clownfish could be confused by the lower light causing it to retreat to a different corner and just swim at the surface. Do you usually run the blues longer than the whites?

Yea it’s something with the blue lights spectrum, mine do the same thing sometimes, when the blue light come on in mine tank, One of the clown fish thinks the other is a other type of fish and Attack it
