So got my tank set up and have a few questions that I can’t seem to understand... so I have had it up for two days. I know that I can’t add anything for quite some time. But I was wondering what I do after I check my ammonia, nitrates and nitrites..

Am I supposed to have other chemicals to add or tests. I’m just really confused with this part. I guess I don’t understand the science logic behind it. Sorry if this has been asked a million times!!! I have the book Saltwater Aquariums for Dummies but it doesn’t seem to go over what to do next. Thanks in advance!!

Did you add a quick-start bacteria stuff, or are you putting a raw shrimp in it etc? Check out the "Cycling Aquariums" sticky, and WELCOME!

EDIT: and use your firestick to get over to Netflix and watch Mindhunter
I have live sand and live rock and someone mentioned that yesterday. Our lfs told my husband to get a damsel to add then put it in the sump when it’s cycled.

Haha already on season 2!!! Love it!

In my experience, a Damsel is certainly a fish you'll just want to get rid of when the tank cycles...... same thing as using a live fish, is just dropping a raw shrimp into the water, and letting it basically rot in the tank.

The fish would poop to achieve the same result, but the fish will certainly be in water that isn't good for it

Sounds good I will go get a shrimp and check out the cycling thread! Thank you so much!

Welcome, look like progress. You LFS guy must be an old salt. We used damsels to cycle in the 80’s. John has good advice as always. Only thing I would mention is all damsels are-not alike. Most are aggressive, but a few are ok.

Here’s a good guide to read thru

Welcome! Nice to see you starting off right. Your LFS can be a great source of info, but not necessarily. When in doubt, shout out. We'll help in any way we can.
