So i added new sand to existing sand...

So in an attempt to run my gyre at a higher percentage I bought 1-2mm sand to put onto my sugar fine sand to stop it from blowing around. I added the sand yesterday and had turned my gyres to 50% in a 55gallon 4ft tank. this is an xf250. Well the thicker sand has helped tremendously and the sand is not blwing on my acans and covering them! my question is though even though the sand iis not getting into the water column, the are still moving on the ground. Is this going to be abigger problem lie the sugarfine sand or once the sand finds the place and the new sand gest the thin film of algae will it subside? either way it is better for now.

Sand moving around will reduce a bit in time, as a bio film develops on the sand. Depending on flow and current, it may not ever completely go away.

I have 'special reef grade' sand, which is a fairly large grain size, in my new tank. Got wet about 3 months back. I've moved flow around in several ways, and still end up with a bare spot here and there every few days from the sand migrating around. I'm expecting as I add more LPS to the sand bed, that the flow patterns will change a bit... hopefully, it'll help as well.
