So I got more fish!

The seller confirmed it is Hydrolithon gardineri, that it requires similar light to an SPS and that I should be OK not dosing but they dose...well I just copied his reply below.

"Good question. We use Instant Ocean Reef Crystals in our system. Though we dose 8different supplementations, namely: Red Sea Coral Colors A,B,C,D, Brightwell NO2 and PO4, Aquavitro Fuel, Brightwell ALK, because we keep a handful of corals, inverts and macro algae that need these additional supplements and we only do 5% water change every 3months to keep everything in balance.

I don’t think you’ll require dosing if you do regular water changes and keeping a few corals in general."
Interesting, well yea not coraline lol

Yes I agree. I'm still undecided. Choices are used SB reefer 16" extreme wifi, new AI Prime HD, or new AI Hydra26.

I wanted to consider the AI Hydra52, Radion 15w or Radion 30w but I won't be able to swing those options at the moment.

The SB reefer 16" and the AI Prime are really attractive due to price. The possible non UL certification of the SB reefer is definetly a concern although I'm honestly still considering it.

For $11 more than one AI Hydra 26 you could get 2 of the Noopsyche K7 Pro 2 and have higher par and more spread to cover your tank. Just a thinking out loud.

Actually yes coralline.

http://www.algaebase.org/search/genus/detail/?genus_id=32966

"Type designated in Mason, L.R. (1953). The crustaceous coralline algae of the Pacific coast of the United States, Canada and Alaska. University of California Publications in Botany 26: 313-389, Plates 27-46."
Not traditional coraline when people talk about coraline, it won’t grow all over rocks and specs appear randomly elsewhere like the coraline you are looking for.

Coraline has a purpose, it out competes ugly algae that grows on rocks and gives a cleaner place for coral to encrust on. Having a branching coraline doesent seem to be beneficial in that it does not help with that crucial part of your tanks ecosystem.

Yes if you want it sooner rather than later. It takes a while anyways. I believe the purple helix or pink helix takes 4-8 weeks before you're supposed to see results. But from what I've read it seems to work though.
People have had success with adding the coralline boosters with the purple/pink helix as well.

I have to say I love the valentini puffer have had him for over 3 years now =) such an interesting fish but a bugger when it comes to coral. Its a hit or miss at one point he never messed with anything then one day I caught him chowing down on my zoas.

I read somehwere...maybe on here or maybe on another site. It's been a really long day but anyway it said it's just a matter of time before the puffers instincts kick in. I think as long as I have some coralline algea (not the branching kind lol) all over my rocks, and a few fake corals and I'll be good. Anything beyond that will just be like a bonus. I'm sure I'll feel differently when I actually get some coral and drop some dough on them lol. The idea that they are alive is very odd to me. Basically I guess it's like a plant. And anemones are like plants that move. Lol I probably shouldn't of said that on a reef forum but just being honest. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised when/if I get deeper into corals.

It’s more like a lion that likes to sun itself than a plant. Algae is your only plant in marine vocabulary, everything else is an animal. You need to feed them, or they hunt on their own for food, their “stomach” gets full and looks full, they grow, they expel waste. It’s amazing. Watch a video of like “acan feeding” or something, it will blow your mind. Or better yet, “scoly feeding”

Wait they move? Lol how did I not know this. I know they have mouths or a mouth and a foot or feet right? Haha. I'll try to fit this in tomorrow. Need to hit the sack already tonight.

How does one even buy one of these? Do they have a site or do we order from someone on the forum?

Every species is different in their methods, it’s so cool man. I had no idea, two years ago I also thought they were plants. Once you see how alive they really are that’s what truely gets you hooked in this hobby I think.

Clams and nems have foots. Coral has skeleton

They can be purchased on the forum HERE top of the page right hand side. BUT just today I saw a post HERE that they're for sale stateside now. Meaning quicker shipping.

Thanks. My concern now is that I "cant" really mount them to the tank because my screen lid is in the way. Even if I cut holes for the mounts in the lid, not sure how I would get the lid off very easily.

I'm thinking the best option for me would be to ceiling mount them. Maybe I can ask on the forum tomorrow if their is any option for ceiling mounting.

Maybe something like this? I assume these are vendor specific for AI?

Or is there an easier way. I'm not very handy. I'd also consider wall mounting if possible.

If you read through the thread you can control up to 16 lights with 1 controller. You do need 1 controller. So you could get 2 lights and a controller for $377. And I believe BRS has AI Hydra 26 for $366. That price is without the tank mounts because I remember you said you wouldn't want to mount them that way because of your screen top?
lol
Yes just get an LED hanging kit
In one of those Noopsyche threads it shows the mount may be the same as the hydra 26

My frag will be here Friday. How long do I have to get a light before my frag dies? I'm ready and willing to buy now, but just have to coordinate buying the light and the hanging kit.

Any idea on shipping time for that light? I have to get some sleep but I'll check back in tomorrow.

I’m not sure, my guess would be a week max. But I’m really not sure.
