This is what I ordered from a well know online dealer; a Tridacna Maxima "Ultra Turquoise" 1 -1/2 inches

This what I received. Its been in my tank for 4 days now and I am waiting for it to turn colors.. Am I hopeless, or this is a light thing?

What's wrong with it?

As information when the item was purchased, it said to expect small color variations from the picture shown, but this is absurd.

Not even close. That clam isn't going to change colors to the one in the pic above. Did you email the vendor with pics?

Is that the clam from Liveaquaria? I seen that one you picture on there. Glad I didnt order it if it doesnt actually look like it.

Does not look like a lighting issue at all to me. And way more than a small color variation.

Look at it from top down. That's probably how they took the picture. Clams are a different color from the top down.

That is not the same clam. While both are Maximas, a turquoise clam will look more blue at angle than purple. I don't think a top down view will change it to turquoise. It will change the color, yes, but those are way too far off in my opinion.

What? That ain't even close to the same clam, and I'm a little surprised that vendor would do this on purpose (if same vendor Im thinking of) so maybe was honest mistake?

haha. That is from LiveAquaria for sure. I have also been thinking about ordering a turquoise clam from them. I'm guessing it is an honest mistake as that is a blue not a turquoise.

What you want to do is take a top down shot and send the pic to LA. Their customer service is top notch. They will give you full credit on your next order. Mistakes do happen. Good luck. James

I don't think they shipped you the right one. The pattern doesn't match up. I would turn off your power heads and take a top down photo and match up the patten. It's like a finger print.

Yes, that is LiveAquaria's example photo, not a WYSIWYG. Even so, the clam you received will never display the colors that the photo shows, and if I am not mistaken, it will never even come close. That is not a turquoise max.

I got a turquoise clam from pacific east a few months back. Here is top down.

But viewed from the front, it is much more blue.

That said I agree with the others. Yours is not what was in the sales image.

That's what I thought, and no, have not contacted the vendor yet

+1^. I'd contact the vendor. That's not what's in the advertised pic.
Yep, that is what I am planing to now

Ha ha ha... me too, but I fell for it when they put it on sale

Is there any way you can take a top down shot? What type of lights do you have it under?

Don't have the equipment for a top-down photo. Lights are stock Compact Fluorescents on a Biocube 14; one 24 watts 10000k, and one 24 watts 755 nm actinic, total 48 watts.

Thanks all for the comments, will try my best to take a top down, and contact the vendor.

What??, now the clam unattached itself, and left a 1/4" fibrous plug on the rock that was placed on the sand..How did it manage to walk 2 inches over the sand in one hour?.. this is crazy, could be snails that pushed it? hope nothing is wrong with it.

Placed it in a corner of the tank over a ceramic plate for now to see if he stays there.

Compact Florescent lighting won't be enough for the clam. I would upgrading the lights or move it to a new home asap.

I'm thinking you need to consider upgrading your lights, even if you get the turquoise maxima you wanted it will still more than likely die under those lights.
