But I just hooked up 2 250 watt lumen brights over my 120 and I must say i am super happy with my choice ha. t5s are cool and i run them on my small tanks but on my show tank its amazing having halides. So for anyone going back and forth about lighting i suggest you check these out.

It's all personal prefs at time point IMO. I considered twin MH on my display, but I cant beat the coverage and color combos of my current T5.

Then again, I'm over both of them and am trying to go LED :)

Yeah I think everyone has what works best for them just since t5s came out I was like saweet crazy output low heat SOLD its nuts how all of us like to tinker and try things our own way but I guess thats what brings us together. LEDS are awesome im really impressed seeing them run with halides I would have never thought 2 or 3 years ago you could run a reef tank off of LEDS. That will prob be the next upgrade when I get the cash.

I know man... I feel like, by the time I am full LED.... Plasma lighting will be ready for home use... or a lighting system using retro-mutagen ooze.. AWESOME!

I am considering LED's on my next big frag tank. Was wondering if it was viable.

Viable as in able to successfully grow coral or viable as in affordable? As far as growing coral, it sure seems like it. Most LED units are PAR testing as well or slightly better than MH lighting and hobbyists that have made the switch seem to be very happy with how their corals are responding. Moneywise... yeah, they're $$$$. The least expensive ones are about on par with a good T5 array and it just goes up from there.

I have a feeling if you tried the ATI Power Module you'd be kissing the halides good-bye forever! It all comes down to how much money are you willing to spend??? Power Module users never look back, I can promise you that!

Signed,

Happy T5 user and previous M.H. 400W user.

I'll be testing out LEDs only on my prop tank I built... we'll see how corals grow.

I think the PMs are amazing looking fixtures I just like the look of a finished canopy and it would be a shame to buy something that nice and spend that kind of money if its just gonna be hidden away. I was running an 8 bulb retro before the halides and by no means was it bad i just love the look of the coralvue 20k.

I just love the shimmer too much to switch over to T5s. I just use T5s as supplement lighting.

I am still waiting on the price on LEDs to come down a little more before giving them a try.

I am looking at switching over to LED's for my 200DD. Here is a website that sells everything you need and answers a lot of the common questions I had about LED's.Reef Led Lights

Like Kraylen stated, It is all about personal reference. Each of them have their own beauty.

I have 5 tanks and run a total of 9 250 watt mh's on them and Ive tried T5 and it didnt last an hour on my tank I was already switching back lol.

I've been wanting to change my lights to less heat but just love my halides...LEDs are the closest to depict the look of halides.

I used to run halides, but switched to T5's and am happy with them. I use a 12 bulb sfiligoi fixture. I also think I'll end up LED though lol.
