I have had a Randall's goby in quarantine for a month and finally put him in my 75 gallon yesterday.
Tonight I left the doors of my hood open after I fed and forgot to close them. A half hour
later I found my goby on the floor dead :(
I am not looking forward to telling my 3 young boys in the morning that "Go-Bess" is dead.
Some lessons are learned the hard way.

It's one of the ten commandments of fish keeping.

Never name your fish. If they don't like the name they will jump.

That sucks! Covers are so important and yet we often hear somebody forgets it or just a corner and SOMETHING jumps. =(

and Touring...ANY fish can jump. I'll never keep an aquarium without a top. Friend had a clownfish jump after 3yrs...man he was tore up.

I lost a 4 year old clown to jumping. I had gone to check something on the tank in the middle of the night and had apparently spooked it. I didn't find out until the next morning. I was upset for at least a week over the loss of her.

Sorry to hear about your loss :/

I had one jump into the sump and get stuck. Rip.

Thanks everyone. The ironic thing was the reason I was away from the tank was that I was looking for his snapping shrimp partner In my Q tank so I could reunite them. I have a couple of my sons deceased freshwater fish in the freezer that have been waiting for a proper burial, so I guess today's the day.

I remember when one of my fish decided to hop on out right while I was feeding the fish. Luckily I noticed him immediately and put him back in. Canopies are definitely essential to have, but ya' still gotta watch out when you've got them open.

Sorry for your loss, Mike.

My fish never had names till my wife started naming them....now the kids have taken over....so I will blame her! LOL
Next time I will do a better job vetting their names so wont happen in the future :)
The hardest thing so far was getting me 3 years old's to name the clowns something else besides Nemo. We ended up
with "Light" and "Yoda"..poor little guys.
