Yesterday I took my first of many 1 hour trips to World Wide Corals and it completely changed the way I want to reef.

Will break down my questions into pieces so it's easier to decipher:

1.) Well recently I sold my Aqua Illumination Sol's and switched to T5's.. I'm running a four bulb set up over my 40 breeder with a bulb combo of ATI Blue +, Coral +, Fiji Purple, ATI Blue +. I wasn't getting any growth with my LED's, and I can already see growth in some of my SPS, but the color is crap compared to LED's.. WWC runs mostly Radions over all over their frag tanks, how are they getting the growth and color out of these? Is it because they are full spectrum and the Sol's were only blue and white? I'm thinking of going Radion, but I've read 40 breeders only need one above them, this true?

2.) All of WWC tanks are completely bare bottom, mainly because they are full SPS tanks. Yesterday I sold my roomate all of my corals, besides a select few that I like. I'm going full SPS/Chalice with a few zoanthids/plates. My question is, how do I go from sand to BB? I have about a 2-2.5 inch sand bed, and I'd really like to get rid of it so I can push the flow up in my system. I'm already convinced on BB, I've done my reading so I'm not looking for cons, I'm looking on how to do the conversion.

3.) Last night I put my new pink prostata into my tank, and this morning I woke up to a gorilla crab on it. When I left I had no polyp extension, but the lights only had been on for ~30 minutes. I got the crab off and he's gone. Any hope on this? Did he possibly devour my entire frag in one night?

4.) I have one MP10 and a Mag7 on my 40 breeder now. I keep the MP10 on short pulse mode at around 60%. Is this going to be enough flow? Or should I add another MP10?

Thanks a lot guys, I'm hoping I can get some good answers and get my tank under control.

I run radions and they are the best. Great growth a d color. 1 radion will cover a 40 breeder.

Syphon the sand out during each water change. No cons if you only have a shallow sand bed now. Great for blasting the flow.

1 mp10 should be plenty of flow for your tank. Turn up to full if you want. I constantly change the strength and flow pattern on mine.

I have 3 radions and 7 different types of vortechs.

Good luck

I'm sure Ai sols can grow corals fine. How's your water parameters. Are there any dead spots in your tank? That would determine if you need another mp10. I run 2. Bare bottom is fine just have to be selective with your inhabitants. And take things a little slower. Seems like you are rushing. Nothing good happens fast.

Most people that have barebottom tanks have SPS only which I know is what you plan doing but I know chalices and other LPS do need "dirty water" and sand helps out with that. If the water is too clean which is needed for a full SPS reef, it usually kills LPS

I could always get rid of my LPS and just try out chalice. WWC is all bare bottom and there chalice is insane.

Another big question of mine is, will the tank be okay with no starboard on the bottom? If I suck all the sand out it will just be a glass bottom.

Also, I see tanks like this:

He's running a 6 bulb over his 40 breeder and it looks amazing as you can tell. What's the secret to get the color he's getting? I bought a Darth Maul Zoa Frag and a X-Men frag from WWC yesterday and they look NOTHING like they did in their tanks because I'm running T-5's!

DM and xmen are both difficult zoas. They like lower light and they're sensitive.

I have 3 tanks connected to a sump. 30 gallon with 1 radion( far left) 100g with 8 bulb ATI T5 (middle) and 250g with 2 radions in the front and a 36" x 6 bulb in the back.

Your tanks are brilliant. Wow.

Well tonight I'm going to do my step of taking out sand. I really wish I could add starboard, but that would require taking all of my 6 fish, corals, inverts sand etc out. Maybe it is a good excuse to start over. I have a QT tank I could keep my fish in, and my roomate could hold my few SPS frags since I sold all of my corals. I was thinking of possibly selling off of my fish besides my picassos. I thought of possibly getting rid of my harlequin as well. I want a low bioload so I don't have nitrate issues etc. I have a lot of plans for the tank now, but money will dictate how quick it happens.

New sump
Skimmer
Barebottom (starboard)
Another MP-10
