i noticed some red bugs in my smaller tank with a couple acros in it. im looking to treat the whole tank now as i have a couple acros fully encrusted on rocks . The couple that arent fully encrusted ive taken out and used coral rx pro and that seems to work when its in a concentrated dose. my big question is every post you read the answer is interceptor and thats all fine except it hasnt been in production in 4 years . I went to to the vets and they gave me interceptor plus but apprently this has some tapeworm medicine in it as well so im hestitant in using it . i took a pic of it to see if someone has used the same thing . i just get confused when i see posts from 2013- on saying just used interceptor when its not available, or is just my vet? anyways thoughts , feedback?

I think that will work just fine. Remember that it will kill your shrimp and crabs. I also believe there is a Dr. G in tank treatment as well, just can't remember the name, but it has the active ingredient in it as well.

good question, seems difference in the plus is the added 228mg praziquantel. Not a vet or doctor etc so can't help you with that
I have the standard interceptor and it only shows the milbemycin on my label
Going to throw shout out to @Humblefish who may be able to provide some details on the medicine

right the vet even said i dont know if thats good or not , apparently its for tapeworm or something like that . its just crazy when you read the 100s of posts since 2012 regarding regular interceptor and people say o ya just go to the vets and get it but the vet says they havent made it since then , im just confused. where did you get the standard interceptor then if you have it currently

Praziquantel is what Prazipro is. A lot of people use prazipro in their reef tanks with little to no ill effects.

Now, with milbemycin, you want to be careful. It will kill off all your little bugs, including some species of flatworms you don't see that can be really toxic. Don't skip out on the carbon and water change part.:D

i need something to else to be positive on the subject no offense , dont feel like gambling thousands on a hunch lol. so how does pet meds still carry it but my vet doesnt? I mean i can see overstock but they do have an expiration date on it..

I used the old school interceptor which didn't have the prazi as an active ingredient and it worked great obviously. Now this stuff I would think would be good to use in the tank since we can safely dose prazi in reefs with no ill effects except to feather dusters. What I would do is set up a small tank on the side with a infected test frag and dose this interceptor plus and see if there is any ill effects on the acro.

Would your vet give you a written prescription for the original formula?

Your vet doesn't carry it probably because there are dozens of different heartworm preventions. Just with milbemycin there is the original, the one you have, another with something that sterilizes Fleas, another with something that kills Fleas. All with different price tags. To stock all of them, in all the different sizes would easily be over $5000 of inventory sitting on the shelf. And that's not including the topical heartworm preventions, injectable heartworm prevention, other oral preventative that use ivermectin instead of milbemycin.. So they had to pick which to put on the shelf.
Pet meds is in the pharmacy business so has warehouses full of different stuff, in general I would recommend buying from your vet whenever possible, but for this purpose I would ask for a written prescription or if they have an online pharmacy available for you to order from.

Edit missed a post - it was of the market a couple years. It relaunched last spring from another manufacturer

Oh, and regarding the praziquantel it is what's in prazipro. If you can find how many mg prazipro is using per gallon, you could compare that to the mg in the interceptor you have

Ah ok I didnt know it relaunched , it was odd to me that if it wasn't being made how could one stock it from 4 years ago when it has an expiration date .like I said I can kill red bugs with the dip as well but we all know that's not going to help long term as they're in there . Ill go back down there and see if I can just get a script for the regular one so I can have the peace of mind . Thanks
