So... What percentage do you use?

LOL, we just had this conversation a few days ago, I used to not be exactly truthful sometimes. But that changed a few weeks back when my wife accompanied me to a frag meeting in Bloomington Il, looking for coral for her brand new 15 gallon Nano tank. She found out it can be expensive to by those really pretty ones she liked so well. We walked out of there with 6 new corals and Hundred buck less in our pockets, and her saying how much fun it was. So I guess I will be truthful from now on.

MINE GOT ME INTO THE HOBBY ssoooooooooooo she knows all the prices and names of fish and all that fun stuff. I mean i no more then her now but still i cant pull anything over her eyes! shes to smart :P

I tell her the truth about the tank, i only do "creative accounting" for guns

Exactly. Mine is much happier when I buy something new to put in my tank, and not the gun safe. She will stick he face on the tank glass like one of those stuffed Garfield dolls people put in their back windshields. She doesn't even like being in the same room where my safe is.

I don't lie but I never offer the amount I spent unless I am asked. He doesn't normally ask how much weapons cost either but he did tell me he thought we were safe enough and that I didn't need anymore ammo either. Frags are WAY cheaper than firearms :)

My wife will pull the trigger

Bob

lying is wrong...if I were to lie to my wife, she might pull a trigger alright, but it wouldn't be the one you speak of...I find it easier to ask for forgiveness than to beg for permission LOL

I do not think I have every told my wife the truth about what I pay for my livestock/equipment but then again I am rarely asked. However I recently signed up for nicewrasse's "Coral of the Month" thing and I fully intend on taking advantage of that so knowing she would notice coral being shipped to our house frequently I preemptively told her I signed up for a "Coral Club" and it cost $100. She asked me what the advantages were and I just told her I get one coral a month for a year from it. I failed to mention that I still have to pay for that coral.

It's not necessarily lying, just not telling the whole truth .

I don't really feel that bad about it because I am fairly certain she does the same thing, she is always getting packages in the mail from clothing/shoe places.

right now its about 30-50% depending on what it is.
it's really all his fault though
I told him i wanted a saltwater aquarium and that i was expecting a few thousand as a gift from my parents and i was going to sell my four wheeler, but they have a sale on the aquarium NOW..so...he could just...pay for it now right? and then ...i'd give it back....
$9,000 later, i paid my student loan off with the money my parents gave me, my four wheeler is still sitting in the garage because he wants to be able to go trail riding with me.
for the record, he knew i was paying my student loan and was fine with it. he says the saltwater aquarium is for me to play with, but I have to keep it looking nice so he can enjoy staring at it all night. The only thing he asked for was a sally crab...which i dont like since it reminds me of a spider....but it's in there...
Now all the upgrades come out of my bank account so he never sees how much i spend
i told him the 5 stage 150gpd RO/DI system from BRS cost me $75.

Its a good thing he doesn't have a clue what a forum is for and will never see this, haha

my buddy @ the store works with me on this... lol

My wife and I have 2 12 year olds, and a daughter in college, a mortgage, 2 vehicles "Massachusetts taxes" and all the other bills that go along with life like most of you. Neither one of us are rich...lol, but are getting by ok. When it comes to buying anything for our 3 reef tanks, it's defenatly a joint decision. 9 out of 10 times we get what we need. One way I found that I can get something extra is by selling off some of my old hobbies. Thanks Craigslist!
