Hi everyone!

I've been seeing all of these really beautiful corals lately. Med-large colonies that are gorgeous, but for really cheap? I guess it is because they're Maricultured. So I have to ask, whats the catch? WHY are these corals so cheap? Do they have a low survival rate or something...? Thank you so much!

Brooks I would think they're cheaper because they don't have to be collected which would save on fuel, time, etc. As far as survival rate I've had good luck. Some of my millis and acros are mari-cultured from Indo.

Come take a look sometime!

IMO sales are down and you are getting more for your dollar. Even some of the high end corals are taking a price hit just the same size usually. The vendors are doing what it takes to survive in this economy. It is too bad really, since these hard times will be around for a couple of years and we will lose some great vendors that will be unable to survive that long. They have a family to provide for also. I will say that for those that saved for this knowing that it was bound to happen may be fine. The problem that i see, is that i am sure that NOBODY had palnned on it taking years. We got the promise of change alright. arg

I see... well, I know what I'm doing! Thanks for the input guys. And I agree... its very unfortunate that some vendors will be shutting down. Hopefully a recovery will take place for those who are down temporarily.

I have to agree with reefsmokin too. This can be an expensive hobby and tough times call for tough pricing. I also think that the trends of whats hot now has shifted more to LPS (Chalice frags for example). I myself tend to buy mostly LPS or easier to care for Montis or Millis. I just don't have the time to be so meticulous about my tank as some of our fellow reefers do. Not to say I neglect my tank, but I've been known to skip a water change or two . Supply and demand, thats what drives the machine ya know.
