So who do I believe?

I’ve ran my calcium on a Hanna Checker and a new Salifert test kit.
Hanna = 466
Salifert = 540

I’m in the process of bringing down my ALK from 10.7 to 9.5dkh by backing off on my calcium reactor till I get close to 9.5 dkh. My understanding is that calcium reactors should output a balance of calcium and Alkalinity. I’ve been shooting for 450 calcium prior to backing off on the reactor. I find it real hard to believe the Salifert kit. Am I missing something? The tank is 220 gal mixed reef.

I would side with the salifert myself... the calcium checker is something it seems Hanna has fallen short on. I didn't purchase one given the huge amount of mixed reviews...

You can’t tell. My advice is test both 2 times see if you can get the same result twice. Also the Hanna checker does have a test solution. You can buy it and see if yours is accurate

Both values are OK,a and I'd just focus on maintain alkalinity.

What salt mix are you using? If it started high in calcium, the reactor would keep it there.

Ive had several people now tell me to concentrate on the Alkalinity and getting it dialed in with the reactor so that's what ill do. Chasing numbers will drive you crazy. lol

Randy Im using Frits Pro salt that advertises Calcium at 400-450 ppm @1.026 so that's what's making me not believe the salifert kit

I think I've seen a lot of reports lately of it having variability in some of the big parameters.
