A lot of the reefers who prefer sps often have to deal with bleaching (especially with wild colonies), either the coral arrives bleached or bleaches over a period of time after introduction to the new system due to changes in water chemistry, lighting intensity or possibly stress from shipping. Often times the coral will take on a completely different color pattern after regaining its color. What measures do you take to deal with this predicament? I myself follow the following tactics:

Reduce the lighting on the coral, not necessarily shade but at the bottom of my 28 inch deep tank.

Place it in a medium-strong flow, a wide open area at the bottom of my tank gets decent flow from my two mp40s

Spot feed the coral at night once to twice a week with a mixture of coral frenzy, coral extacy, zu-feast, and oyster feast.

Stare at the coral at least five times a day willing the color back into it.

Below is a pic of an acuminata coral I received last week that was severely bleached upon delivery. Was completely white, if it wasn't for the acro smell I would have thought it was dead. I might try to update this thread with an after pic in a few weeks.

I will stay tuned for an update. This is good information if it all works out well. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Just tagging on. Great thread, thanks.

I do everything as you except the spot feeding. Usually less light with good flow and stable water does the trick but it can often take weeks to even months.

Tagging along with this one also. Would like to see how this works out for you. I bleached out a nice blue acro when I switched tanks and haven't thrown it away yet. Hoping it will gain it's color back.

I'll give a quick update since there are some followers on this. I received the coral last Wednesday (about ten days ago) and I have spot fed it three times. It is difficult to see from the sides, but when viewing top down I can see some color coming in. The base and center area appears to be turning pink and the tips seem to be turning a bright yellowish green (almost like a highlighter yellow). When i view the coral at night with my led on my phone the coral looks tanish yellow with some pink splotches near the center of the base, it used to look white no matter what light hits it. Typically when I post something like this (or an id thread) I get jinxed and the next day the coral has died or seriously declined, so I will knock on some wood and try to get a set of cellphone pics tomorrow.

It has been about two weeks, do I snapped a couple pics. I had an alk drop that I corrected over the weekend...so it actually lost a little color that it had gained but not much. It is hard to tell it is gaining color when viewing from the side, but when looking top down you can see the color coming in. I tried to get a somewhat top down pic through the glass. The yellow isn't distinct enough to show up on the camera yet.

I've seen some before though to be dead sps color up and make it back....don't lose your hope, maybe it'll make a comeback! Good luck

What's the dragon like coral in back?

It's an acropora walindii colony i'm growing out. It is one of my favorites, right now it has whitish blueish green polyps, and minty green tips and the center is getting a purple sheen. Below is a crappy iPhone pic I have of it.
