Currently, I'm only soaking General Cure / Focus in with my frozen food. Is it ok to also add Kanaplex / Metroplex along with GC to the food?

I've been trying to QT wrasses and most seem to go from eating well for a few days with no visible symptoms of disease to dead within 24 hours (while ramping up copper power over a few days.) Someone suggested maybe I'm dealing with internal uronema, hence the question.

The issue is that wrasses can carry velvet, ich etc and not show symptoms. I was 3 for 3 in wrasse death in QT 2 from Uronema and one from a spinal injury. I am now close to putting 2 into my DT and they were a challenge, when I first got them after 24 hours they were breathing hard and laying around. I wasnt sure they were going to make it. I ramped up Copper Power to .75 on day one and when they were still alive the next morning I went to 1.50 then to 1.75 the next day and held it there. I did feed metro and focus from day one to help with any internal issues.l( this would help with Uronema internally also) So far they are doing great. I would think if you had fish dying from Uronema internally it would also present externally. Here is my Yellow and Purple wrasse just before death. I think you are dealing with something else, do you start meds right away? Kanaplex etc is good for secondary infections usually after treatment for flukes, etc that become infected.

General cure already contains metronidazole, so I definitely wouldn’t double up by using metroplex in the food as well.

I think generally you would want to soak one med at a time, but you can still feed both. For example, maybe your feed general cure in the AM, then kanaplex in the evening, etc.

However, if you think it might be uronema... I think you will be better off using metroplex in the water column (can be done with copper for ich/velvet) AND food soaking in GC or metroplex, for 14 days.

I would also make sure to break down, clean, and sterilize your QT before you try another batch of fish.

I'm always paranoid that I'm dealing with velvet as well. In the past, I gradually ramped up copper over 5 days but I was still losing them after a few days. With the current QT of wrasses I started on Friday, I started copper at 1.0 and ramping up to 1.75 over 48 hours.

What's baffling about past sudden wrasse deaths were I didn't see any visible behavior nor symptoms of velvet or uronema.

Perhaps I should do Copper Power + Metro + Kana w/ Metro soaked food only? Then after 14 days in a new sterile tank, treat with GC and GC soaked food.

Ah, that's a great idea of splitting AM / PM with different meds.

I couldn't confirm that it was uronema but been having a hard time figuring out what else could kill a fish so quickly overnight. I was considering adding Spectrogram with Copper in case it was bacterial infection that was killing them but I think I should add Metro instead as you suggested.

All QT tanks sterilized before used.

You can use metroplex in the water column, and if you notice signs of infection add in Kanaplex and Furan-2. But I wouldn’t suggest using all three prophylactically without symptoms.

Are you using the Hanna checker to test copper?

I'll add Metro tonight and hold off on adding Kana / F2. Also going to mix a batch of food soaked in Kana to feed in the PM.

Why is it discouraged to mix all 3 with Copper Power by the way? Oxygen deprivation?

You can mix all three with copper, and yes it can deplete the oxygen, so extra aeration is important.

It’s not that I discourage using them, but I do consider the combination to be the “big guns” so to speak and don’t like to over-use antibiotics as a general rule. That might just be my personal opinion...

Do u have to soak the food? Or can u get dump the gc package into the qt?

General Cure can be directly dosed into the QT's water. Best way to do that is to use a small brine shrimp net. Lower the net half way into the water. Pour the contents of the package into the net. Massage the net to expel the GC into the water.
