Hello,

I have never used Selcon before but I thought I would give it a try. I am attempting to soak thawed seafood (silversides, shrimp, squid ect) with selcon to feed to a moray eel. Im not sure that the eel is getting the best nutritional value from eating just these foods, particularity the silversides which he likes the most.

Is it possible to enrich these types of foods with Selcon? From what I am reading its best to use foods that will soak in the Selcon and I am picturing this not happening with thawed foods. Any experience with this? Is this even necessary to use?

I would also then like to try it with frozen cubes for my other fish. Will this work with cubes or is this just made for freeze dried foods?

Thanks!

I only feed my fish frozen and 2x or so a week I add selcon to to the cup as I soak in tank water but you probably don't have to with a good blended food like LRS

I add selcon to all my thawed frozen foods. I imagine it soaks it up but no way to tell for sure I guess. I believe they get it from the water as well after the food is added to the tank. Selcon is a great addition to their diet. Good luck with the eel, would love to see him!

Ok thanks, I will try letting it soak :)

I was told by one of the local gurus to not soak frozen food because none of it would be soaked up. Only flakes/pellets can be properly soaked.

I buy a raw seafood medley. Defrost in a little Boyd's vitachem overnight or over a few days. I put a few pieces in a tank water to bring the temp up then feed on a skewer

I soaked a silverside in some last night and it seemed to work well!

A little goes a long way with Selcon. I use it when adding new fish, but used too much the last time and I'm dealing with cyano, so a few drops is all you need. I use it on LRS, btw. I typically use it once a day, but the last go around I used it each time I fed, which was my mistake.
So to recap, once a day, just a few drops, good to go.

Oh ya I just put one drop in the gut section. :)

Cant you inject a tiny bit of selcon in thawed silverside, shrimp, etc? Also for more nutritional value, you can also stuff small pellet foods in to these types of frozen food. That's what I'd do instead of just soaking in Selcon.

Great call! This will work better, thanks!

Been looking for ways to enhance my Lionfish's diets. Great idea. Thanks!

How much do you think really soaks in? Does it really make a difference? I am thinking about marinating a piece of meat. It flavors the meat a bit, but not a whole lot of stuff is being soaked in right!

If you are feeding high quality frozen food, that should be enough, unless they are training for the Olympics.

That's a great idea for larger chunks and larger fish.

I don't see myself injecting mysis shrimp - the looks on my wifes face would be priceless!

Lol. Yea, needs to be definitely larger than mysis.

I am feeding smelt which isn’t the most nutritional. I also Fred shrimp and squid but he loves the smelt.

Injecting the selcon worked great! But yes it requires large chunks of fish.
