after adding my cbb and my yellow tang not having it, i got this guy instead.

i am wondering if this method is suitable for social introduction? or is letting them "duke it out" what will be needed?

excuse the crude LR from the sump to weight it down.

thoughts?

I've had success with adding fish when it was lights out and taping mirrors on both sides of the tank. The bully is so pre occupied with its reflection that he doesn't notice the new fish.

I've heard of the method that you're using working. In fact the owner of a LFS recommended it to me. I didn't do it cause I didn't have help moving my canopy out the way for me to place the device in the tank

i tried the mirror/ pictures pasted everywhere didnt work on this yellow tang at all.

just hoping this one works. im guessing i gotta leave this box in there for a week or so.

btw, my canopy has a lift on the front. maybe yours does too?

My canopy has a partial lift but the creature carrier box I was using was just too big that it wouldn't clear the rest of the canopy. Have you tried leaving the lights off? Yellow tang can be real bullies

yeah. this YT is a total dipstick. my last one from my 220 didnt care about anythig i added.
even lights out though... the next morning he would try to chase my CBB around.

tbh i think i need to leave the acclimation box in there until the YT stops pretending to peacock up to this tang with his fins.

hope it works out but powder blues are one of the more aggressive tangs. probably won't be long before it becomes the bully.

oh good. no love lost if the YT gets his own medicine.

Powder blue tangs are in my opinion THE most aggressive tang. Trumping sohal and purple with EASE. I've had dozens of them throughout the years.

If you didn't quarantine him and every fish in your tank, he will die of ich in 2-8 weeks anyway unfortunately. acanthurus tangs are only of the few that can virtually never be kept in "ich management" situations. Zebrasoma tangs (like your yellow) are one of the best suited for "ich management" as most tend to quickly build resistances to the parasites, sometimes without you ever knowing.

eh...
only one that i know of that is prone to ich is my regal, and i didnt even treat him in this 265 display with a 6250 gph return.

im assuming pbt are prone to ich, but using the gavel and decrying it so is a bit over-the-top

ich wont be anyone's downfall in this tank

That's an odd reply, saying every fish will die with no quarantine is a bit much. I never quarantine my fish, and have had tangs in the past do just fine.

well i let ol powder out.

the YT's aggressiveness was nowhere near the CBB introduction. PBT largely just ignores the occasional peacocking the YT does.

I have a Purple Tang in my 240g that is King, although it gets along with all the other fish just fine. It will immediately be on any new additions to show who is boss. I added a Lamarks Angel a while back and it stood its ground and the Purple did not know what to do. It tried chasing it a few times and just gave up. Everyone is fine now and there is zero aggression. I think a lot is personality more so than generalizations about any particular fish.

They have far less slime coat and are far less hardy than many other fish. I hope I'm wrong but I rarely am in this regard.

I kept tangs for many years in tanks without quarantine but no powder blue, brown, Achilles, or goldrim. Since proper qt and treatment I have several.

Killed 20 over a 12 year period trying to get them to acclimate to tanks with ich (or using ich management) where the fish never showed signs but new acanthurus tangs always succumbed. Except one who took a year to die.

man. you truly are the tang slayer. (im kidding) but thanks for sharing your experience.

small update.
PBT and YT are doing just fine and swimming together. First night the PBT had to sleep on the couch off to the side of the tank. There was some peacocking by the YT but it seems to have largely died down.

I kinda am glad the YT showed dominance as the PBT tried to chase my scaredy cat regal and the the YT came swooping in to keep the PBT in line.

pretty interesting, and may add a purple tang using the box again.

The yellow tang may have more aggression toward erthe purple because they are more closely related, but the box should help.

yeah. im thinking while the PBT isnt 100% in the click yet, that introducing another while everyone's bearings are off might add success.

update. 2nd week and a minor ich outbreak has been observed on ol powder and the regal.

nothing alarming, but definitely observed.

no one is stressed or flashing yet, but i did want to be intellectually honest.
plan of action is to do nothing. lol. its just a few white specks here and there and ime they generally go away.

but ill keep this post updated as it manifests itself :)

yellow tang is still king of the roost btw.
