Socks; no skimmer for vodka dosing

Can I use 5 micron socks and no skimmer for vodka dosing?

Personally i think 5 micron socks are useless for anything other than very specific limited needs(ie dripping lanthium chloride into it, etc).

Unless you want to be changing the reef socks more often than you do your own socks.

Having said that i do think a 5 micron sock would catch some bacteria, but think most of it is going to be too small.

The carbon dosing feeds bacteria which will suck up O2 and you also need the skimmer to help pull out he extra waste. Not sure I’d carbon dose without a skimmer. Maybe try larger water changes.

My sump level is really low. I have a curve 9
Bubble magus skimmer but it’s not working.

Will an undersized skimmer that fits my sump work?

I’ll probably just stick to water changes then...until I can invest in a new skimmer.
