Soft corals and hard corals

When I started I asked the same question and was given some great advice. Decide what kind of corals you wish to dominate the tank and work towards it. As for care most softies are easy as it gets, things like xenia and mushrooms... but if your long term goal is sps or lps the softies can be a nuisance later on and better left at the store. Just my .02

Thanks for yalls replies.. What are sps or lps?
Isuggest checking around the forums and on google at all of the corals available and the care needed to grow them. This way you find stuff you like with in the amount of time effort and cost youre willing to provide.

When i started i just bought cheap easy zoas shrooms and xenia... then stepped up to acans and euphillia which are lps. Now im working on acros and montis which are sps. In hind sight a little research would have prevented me buying the corals i need to now extract to make room for the coral I want

Lol.. Thanks for advice.. Good thing I have Petco and petsmart and also a local aquarium store around me!!

I wouldn't buy from petco petland just from experience go to an aquarium store

Petcos vary, there are some gems, however there are many stored with minimum wage employees and scripts. Pet smart, in my experience doesnt deal in marine.

Point is be cautious with a chain, or any shop for that matter. This forum has tons of info! Study up

Yeah I know... Hard thing is, is who to trust or who to go to, if I had to choose I'd go with Petco because they explained everything to me , I'm a beginner with literally everything so they explained to me everything... I also went to my local fish store, they explained a little bit the main difference between my fish store and Petco was that the fish store dosent use any bacteria or any live sand or anything added to their water, they told me I only need live rock for filtration and of course a good pump system, nor will I ever have to do water changes EVER!!!... So that's my main confusion... I guess everybody is opinion based!!

I would recommend Aquarium Depot. I just ordered from them earlier today because they're having a 50% off sale on a bunch of their corals.

A better question would be which on-line suppliers have been good, in people's experiences. Then the question becomes what constitutes good?

To me good means high scores on several points such as:
1. Honest
2. Reliable
3. Competent
4. Good livestock selection - they have what I want
5. Healthy livestock
6 Reasonable prices - different from cheap
7. Excellent packaging and shipping
8. Live arrival guarantee, at a minimum.

...for starters.

A low score on any one of these, except number 4, totally disqualifies a supplier for me.
