I'm having a water softener installed in my home. Curious if anyone else has this and is it safe for the reef tank. Will still run rodi before using it. Or should I use the bypass when doing water changes.

I think @AZDesertRat says a water softener before rodi is a good thing, think the salts used to soften it are easier for the membrane to remove iirc. Maybe he will chime in

My main concern is will it have any effect on ph and alk as I do it. Also will the salt mix the same
So long as the rodi is supplying your water it will be fine. The rodi is stripping it down to pure water, so you salt should mix the same. It should not affect alk or pH because that's coming from your salt mix. Assuming 0 tds water from your rodi.

The way I understand is the softener is going to make your rodi not work as hard to get to pure water.
