Hi all,

Can anyone ID this coral for me?

My LFS says it is Sinularia, bit I'm worried that it is a cauliflower (which is, if I understand it correctly, MUCH harder to keep).

Just want to be sure before I buy.

Cheers,
T

Hard to tell without it being open, but it does look like sinularia … but cauliflower colts aren’t that hard to keep, either.

Thanks for the responses.
Apparently (from what I've read online) cauliflowers are actually NPS and as such require frequent feeding? Which makes them more difficult? I also read that they have a tendency to freak out with the smallest change in parameters.

I think based on what you have Sias re ID that I'll go ahead and purchase it. I'll post follow-up pics of when it opens.

Thanks again,
T

Personally to me based on the shape and color (it looks kind of pinkish/orange to me) it does look like a Cauliflower Coral (scleronephthya). You're right on it being an NPS, but it's also one of the harder NPS since they need constant daily feeding of Phyto and other foods since their filter feeders. Unless you're up for the challenge (they're very beautiful), I'd pass on it

Hey all,

Yup... I think it is indeed a Scleronephthya. It opens occassionally and isn't doing too well. I'm going to ask the fish shop if I can exchange it as I don't have the setup, experience, or money to take care of it as it should be taken care of.

Honest mistake and one I'll definitely learn from. What scares me is the fact that the lfs didn't even know what it was so clearly they're also not taking care of it properly.
Maybe I'm wrong though?

Pics below. Please let me know what you think. It is peach-orange-pink in colour.
