Anyone have an idea whats going on with my fairy wrasse? Thoughts? It is only on the one side of his body. He was a little pale since we got him. At first we thought it was due to stress and it would come back after a few days. But he still seems pale.

I have had him about two weeks. After day 1 we noticed some spots on side. Now his one eye is getting a little cloudy.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would suspect flukes. A freshwater dip could confirm that (use a dark container and look for small sesame seed size white objects). Bacterial infection is another possibility. Doesn't look like ich in that picture.

Was the fish quarantined? Breathing fast? Eating?

unfortunately he was not quarantined as I only have one tank. I know this is a no no.

The breathing has seemed normal and he is eating fine and is always out and about.

I had thought bacterial as well but am new to the hobby. So looking for options before treating.

I should also note he does not appear to be itchy as he is not rubbing on rocks or anything.

That's a point against flukes but doesn't rule it out. If you can catch him and do the freshwater dip that would rule that in or out.

Since you do not have another tank giving the wrasse a bath in an acriflavine product like Ruby Reef Rally may help. It has both antibiotic and antiseptic qualities. This may buy you some time. Really needs to be in a QT with antibiotics. QT doesn't have to be a tank. Can use a rubbermaid container with filter and heater and small powerhead. Here's @Humblefish posting on Bacterial infections. Beautiful fish.

Thanks. I will check/try your suggestions.

Someone told me I should use Melafix. Although reading reviews I have second thoughts.
