I thought I would post this in case anyone was interested in grabbing this light. I’m heavily vested into the Focustronic eco system, so I grabbed a Solartronic since I’m intrigued by this light with its ability to adjust par based on Mastertronic results.

I was almost going to dive down the rabbit hole after extensive research but when i wanted to order a mastertronic, they were backordered for over a year :crying-face:

Mastertronic is available now though, right? Did you buy a different tester?

I’m very pleased with all of my Focustronic equipment. Well thought out, rugged and they are always updating and adding new features.

(CLOSEOUT)?
I remember reading on Focustronic forum where they said this would be limited production.

I tried getting premium aquatics to price match, but they declined. They still are listed at almost full price.

No i didnt. I hardly test at this point as I dont have the time for proper husbandry testing.

One of these days....lol. And focustronic is the company i would look at 100%

The solartronic and dosetronic seem like amazing pieces of equipment paired eith the tester.

I really like these and was very close to buying these before I purchased the Illumagic Blaze fixtures.

I love the spectrum and the directional lighting of these. I think they would be great LEDs. This is an excellent price on them as well. It is curious that they are closing them out. I don't think they sold very well.

That’s an easy one. They had to have spent basically nothing in the way of money and effort into advertising and distribution. I keep my ear pretty close to the ground on this hobby, and this thread is the first I have heard of focustronic actually releasing a light fixture. Only to find out it’s on close out. It undoubtedly didn’t sell well. I’d surmise because they didn’t push it very hard

I've known about it for a year or more. Reef Builders had an article about it, there are many YouTube videos over the last year that covered it as well. It's a very interesting fixture that can adjust lighting based on Nitrate and PO4 levels, etc.

Visiting the Focustronic forum, I agree with Rtparty…..They are no longer using Coralvue as a distributor. Solartronic still highly supported and other online vendors still advertising full price.

Still a great price for the technology! The light is extremely well built. Feels like a tank.

I still love and will keep my Straton which is super sleek and powerful, but having a light source move at varying angles and adjustable intensity based on Mastertronic results pushes me over the edge. I’m also heavily vested in Focustronic. Their products even with minor hiccups are next level in reefkeeping. They are constantly adding new features and listening to feedback. I need to find a way to hang this with two wires instead of the four.

We’ll be that as it may, it hasn’t carried near the buzz the alkatronic or dosetronic have, or the dozen or so other heavy hitters in the light realm. But I guess I also don’t browse vendor sites for fun either. I just haven’t seen it mentioned or discussed at all here or on social media beyond this thread anyway. Perhaps the “spent nothin” was a bit superlative.

Got the solartronic from Coralvue and imported to Ireland it is still cheaper than the Ecotech G5! Coralvue lost the dealership for focustronic in the US to Buk Reef Supply - hence the "closeout".

Light are great, much better than the G5's I had!!! they are big and heavy though!

Not readily available so not sure what focustronic's plans are - have to wait and see but I could recommend if you can get them!

I am not sure that's the case on Coralvue. If it is, then why doesn't BRS have any listed? It's on their website, but 0 stock. I actually emailed Coralvue about those last week. Here is what I was told.

"Thank you for contacting CoralVue. As of Monday, December 5, 2022, CoralVue is no longer the distributor of the Focustronic product line. Per the manufacturer's request, all product questions and support are now handled directly by Focustronic.

Knowledge Base: https://focustronic.ladesk.com
Support Email Address: [email protected]

Please know this was a decision made by Focustronic and not CoralVue. We are sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for being so understanding. "

Could be wrong but I read an article on it (can't find it now). Anyway I did get 2 solartronics from Coralvue and All I can say is they are great, I love the light (and so, it seems, do my corals!).

Either way, I am a real fan of what focustronic are doing (Ecotech have definetly gone wrong by removing wifi from their products). only other ecosystem that I like is Red Sea (though reefmat seems to have "issues" - at least the 2 I have/had do!).

With Focustronic you do need to be willing to get your hands dirty (mine came with the "dosers" reversed on the motherboard) - easy fix but should not have happened and for the average person they would have had no idea how to troubleshoot the issue!

Coralvue seem to still have Solartronic's in stock. BRS see, to be saying they are coming. Who knows, could be like Gen 1 that looked cool but never seemed to actually make it to market (again could be wrong here).

I like the concept with the Solartronic. I recently installed an Alkatronic and love it! I just looked on BRS's website and cannot find the Solartronic on there.

I’m trying to understand how this pairs with an Aquarium controller(Hydros or Apex).

This light seems to pack a lot of interesting features. For a newbie looking at tank automation, can one of the more experienced members shed light on the integration or lack of?

Hey Reef,

The features and integration of the Solartronic are only for the Focustronic family of testers. Solartronic is adjusted by Mastertronic readings. You can still program schedules and have the tilt features, but what really sets this light apart is how it integrates with the Mastertronic. I.e…..If Nitrates and phosphates drop, the light lowers its par to prevent stress and bleaching till nutrients come back up.

Hydros can show readings from the Mastertronic, but cannot manipulate the light based on those readings. Only the Mastertronic really makes this light shine. Hth’s
