Anyone have any links to soldering LEDs to a PCB with high precision?

Or tips and tricks and what soldering device does a quick, clean, precise solder?

I have the soldering gun below but it's BIG and BULKY. And the LED solder point are pretty tiny

HELP!

I think you need a soldering plate for pcb.

I hearing you @slimjim .....I had the Weller Junior:

Old Solder Iron.jpg

So when my LED's went south, I purchased the following to more accurately re-solder new LED's in:

Aoyou Soldering Iron
Solder Sucker
60/40 rosin 0.032 solder (1.8 oz)

You'll also need thermal paste, and I first went with Arctic Silver, but have also used Arctic Silver Ceramique 2. I documented one of my LED change-outs HERE.

Ok redfishblue fish.... just ordered the aoyou soldering iron and the 60/40 solder from Amazon.

Whst I have pic'ed above wont do the job. I'll end up putting too much heat on the PCB soldering these diodes. And screwing everything up

Thx for the tips

You've got to be careful soldering LED's It's easy to overheat them using a regular soldering iron. If you have someone that has access to a SMD rework station, that uses very hot air to melt the solder so you are less likely to damage the internals of the LED.

Out of curiosity, what diodes are you soldering?

I think the name of the game is to be QUICK. in snd out with a drop of solder. I plan to practice with this new aoyou iron I'm ordering and solder random useless things until I can get soldering down to 15secs or less

One more think....I've used the solder sucker to clean off the old solder. Some also use Solder Wick....sometimes call solder braid. What this does is wick away the old solder after it is heated up to melt.

And, I'm hoping you realize LED's have a positive and negative....if put in backwards, it won't light. My beads had a little negative on that side of the LED so you knew.

15 seconds per pad? That's way too long. Needs to be under 3 seconds if possible. Also, if it's possible to heatsink the LED, that would help.

I heat my iron to 350 without issues.
