So, I’ve pretty much decided what fish I’m going to put in my tank (85 gallons), and I’ve done a breakdown of their eating habits:

x2 Common Ocellaris / Black and White Ocellaris (omnivore)

x1 Royal Gramma (carnivore) / Swissguard Basslet (carnivore) / Swales Basslet (carnivore)

x1 Yellow Watchman Goby (carnivore) + Pistol shrimp combo

x2-3 Talbot’s or Azure Damsels (omnivores) OR x1 Halichoeres genus wrasse (carnivore) OR x1 Yellow Candy Hogfish (carnivore)

x1 dwarf angel (CB, Flame, Half Black, Rusty, one of the pygmies) (omnivore)

I’ve got these foods in mind:

Dry foods-
1. Vegetable based pellets (with garlic)
2. Meaty pellets
3. Vegetable flakes
4. Meaty flakes
5. Freeze dried plankton
6. Freeze dried bloodworms
7. Seaweed (nori) strips
8. Algae derived flakes / pellets

Frozen foods-
1. Mysis shrimp cubes
2. Brine shrimp cubes / sticks
3. Angel / butterfly diet (Chinese version)

Fresh foods (maybe)-
-Chopped clams / mussels

-Small fish

-Small shrimp

-Lettuce and cabbage strips (maybe?), other leafy vegetables (maybe?)

*From supermarket / seafood market.

I’ve got these foods in mind, and I want to try my very best to give my fish a well-balanced diet. However, the question is where to get live foods, and whether they’d be all that necessary for the fish I’ve chosen to remain at optimal health.

I’d welcome suggestions, comments, and concerns. Thanks.

Any suggestions for making frozen foods? How about freezing (and defrosting) some seafood like small fish, shrimp, and clams / mussels? Would those do? I can also buy leafy vegetables from the supermarket. Worried about pesticides though.

You will love the BRS vid on the subject ...I’d post alink but you’ll find it just as fast as I will

Honestly just feed them pellets like from spectrum and occasionally give them some frozen mysis shrimp they don’t need a fancy diet. Also you could add copepods by the thousands online and let them just reproduce and your fish will have a snack once in a while when they swim out.
