Ok, it might not be much of a mystery, more like a curiosity because I'm still pretty knew to this. I got a small xenia about a week ago. I just today notice a much tinier one growing on another rock quite a distance from the one I bought. Thing is, the one I bought doesn't look any smaller. Tank is about 8 months old and it blends in pretty perfectly to the rock its growing on. Could this have broken off the one I bought and attacked itself or could it be a "hitch-hiker" and I just now noticed it cause it got big enough to show? I love the second idea cause it means I got a free coral lol.

I've noticed sometimes fish will pop a head or 2 off, they end up settling and growing after that. It may have come off in the bag, or putting it in also.

If its in a bad spot, wait till you can get to the stalk and transplant it where you want it at.

It can shrink up quite a bit, so a piece may have came off the frag but once it opened up completely in your tank you did not realize it. It does grow fast though. I would give away a gallon zip loc bag every few 2-3 months from my 36 gallon.

They will jump off rocks to spread ...alot , be very careful with this coral as it has a tenancy to take over your tank if not dealt with periodically, but fortunately its super easy to hand rip off rocks in clusters and frag

Ha enjoy them while they are little they grow up Sooo fast!
