We are currently in the parts 'acquisition' phase of setting up our first saltwater aquarium. It will be a reef setup in a 90 gal Aqueon reef ready tank. Since we live near Orlando my wife and I went down to the MACNA show on Sunday morning to check out the "exhibits" hall. Other than the disappointment that so many vendors had packed up already it was great for us newbies to see all the cool toys. We really liked to looks of the Solvi Reef dry rocks and we ended up buying a large box of them to aquascape the tank once we get to that stage of the process.

I was wondering if anyone had opinions good/bad of the Solvi Reef rock product before we start building our "reef"?

I plan to place plastic egg crate on the tank bottom before placing the reef rocks. Is that a good/bad plan?

We currently plan to go with Seachem "Gray Coast" for the substrate. Advice on dark substrate versus light/white?

Thanks.
