Hello, I’d like to start a mixed colony of Montipora digitata. I currently have the below species, I think bubble gum or Forrest fire? I’ve seen some other colors I’d like to get but wondered if they would coexist or harm one another. Please share pics of your digis or favorite types and any advise on a mixed colony. Thanks in advance!

Most, but not all, will generally coexist, i.e. not kill each other, but will compete for space. The faster-growing variety will always win out.

They will coexist for sure, but out of all the digitata's I've kept the orange one was the most predominant.

They will coexist just the same as a digi and an acro will coexist but as far as them touching that's a no no. I have 9 different digis and i have glued every possible combination i can think of between the 9 of them together in an attempt to come up with a grafted digitata. The only two that can touch out of my 9 without killing each other is forest fire and bubblegum. I believe digitata needs to be classified into many different subspecies because if they were all the same down to the subspecies level just different colors, you would be able to graft them all together no problem. And when i say they kill each other. ... I'm not talking about a faster grower overtaking the slower grower. I'm talking like if you let an acro touch a monti or two different species of acro touch each other kind of killing. Good luck in your quest. I love digis and i love grafted stuff. They will usually grow around each other peacefully if given enough space they just don't play well with touching.

Thank you for the feedback and very interesting points from your experience. I’ll update if I give this a try. Leaning away at the moment.

I realize this is an old thread but are there anymore experiences with this? I want to put 2-3 digis right next to each other but now I’m having second thoughts.

In my experience. I have grown my forest fire and green digitata next to each other and although they dont damage each other like acros, you may see some tissue recession on the losing digitata. And then the winning digitata will grow over the dead spots. Its best to give them some space in between because ultimately one will overgrow the other one.

I randomly just posted a similar observation. My digitatas killed my Forest Fires and Bubblegums with extreme prejudice.
