Just picked up a Radion G3 pro for my frag tank
I was running one on the cheap black box leds at
100% blue
65% white
So what would be a good starting point for the radion??????

I do not own a radion but I would think you should start lower to get the coral used to the light and slowly ramp up the intensity to a point over the period of a week or so

With any change in lighting you want to start out low and work your way up. Id start out at 30-40 percent intensity and ramp it up by 10% a week until you find the sweet spot that your corals like. If they look annoyed dial it back by 5 % wait another week and adjust from there.

Better explanation to this topic lol

Great I have it set for 40% only for 5 hours out of the cycle
I will start with that I guess
The black Chinese box ran a lot higher then that but I don’t know if they are close in power

How high above the tank was the B.B. ? What brand.

Most standard 165w seem to be inthe 600 par , at 12in distance at full power.

I would look at the Radion factory specs.
I’d wager , if you’ve chosen a custom color scheme , at 100%, your not going to hit that with the Radion at the same distance.

I could be wrong.

So the black box is more powerful then the radion ??
Quite possibly , yes. I don’t have all the Radion model specs committed to memory yet.

A quick google shows , wow, the specs are hard to find and the ones that are there are misleading and hard to understand lol.

A simple test is a $15 lux meter. Turn them both to full, and measure. At 12 in. My SB, mars , evergrow and a few others are about 600+ at 12in from the fixture. About 40,000 lux.

But the 30w g3 appears to be about equal to a B.B. , the B.B. having better spread. There is also a lens choices for the Radion.
