Hi all
I dose Triton core 7 the 4 bottle Regent's
36 ml each a day ,heavily stocked SPS LPS tank
I've been a bit lazy lately and not testing my tank for roughly about two weeks
So today I test my calcium and it's sitting above 500 ppm , Hanna Checker and salifert test kit
That Hanna checker gave me two different readings ,either way I know it's above 500 .
585 ppm 554 ppm
Alk is at 8.2 dKH
I've just shut my dosing pump off but what I really need to know is can I still dose the A1 and A2 bottles which is what controls the alk
As I don't really want my alk level to change

Any help on this would be great
If I can't just dose the 2 why I wait for my Cal and mag to drop would it be ok to dose red sea buffer
Thanks

My understanding is that 3a and 3b are Alk, 1 is mainly magnesium and 2 is mainly calcium. (someone please confirm!!)
All of them have some trace elements in them (differ between the bottles to prevent perspiration).

So yes, I would lower dosing of Calcium as well, while keeping Alk dosing as you have it now.

Ok so I'm about to pull out what little hair I have left lol
So many things are just not working out right for me these last few days

So I had very high Cal mag a few days ago so stopped doseing them to let them drop
Carried on with doseing my other 2 bottles which are for the alk
I tested 2 days ago and Cal had dropped to 527 or 526 ppm on my Hanna checker
( 2 tests )

So just now I do 2 tests and it's gone up .....,... ... Without doseing any ?????? 582 ppm

Little things like this get to me so bad I fill like shutting the tank down and keeping gold fish lol

The calcium didn't rise on its own, unless you let the salinity rise significantly.

Many people have issues with reproducibility of the Hanna calcium checker.

I expect a test issue of some sort is more likely than the actual result.

Can somebody confirm this.????

we've been down this utterly confusing road lol

yes, can confirm core7 contents you listed are correct, except parts 3a and 3b contain no trace elements.

our system is a bastardization of triton's 'equal parts dosing' -- meaning we do not dose the components equally

otherwise our Mg and Ca would be so 'high'

So there’s no trace elements in 3a & 3b?

It is listed that they do on their website. I gotta say that a lot of their information is “outdated.”

Do you know this for sure? How did you find out. Can you link the data please. :-)

I also noticed that their asking to target 7 dKH now instead of 8 dKH like the last time I ran Triton. Is their any logic behind that?

I definitely agree with not running all parts at equal amounts. Part 1 & 2 are Magnesium and Calcium so if you dosed Magnesium equally it will get much higher. Calcium “in theory” should be dosed equally, but mine tends to out run my demand and leaving me with an extremely high calcium level and then needed to cut a pump head off.

Triton needs to address these issues.

wait @Reefahholic, i reread one of our old triton-confusion threads and tim of triton usa did confirm that the data sheets for core7 are correct - that 3a and 3b DO contain trace elements ;Dead

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/triton-core7-contents-part-1-part-2-parts-3-a-and-3-b.353387/

totally agree that triton should address those uptake issues - but we asked in different thread, and everyone ganged up and said to dose equally lol

Thanks for the clarity.

BTW...it doesn’t make sense to dose Magnesium equally with Cal and Mag. Everybody knows the demand for magnesium is way less than Cal and Alk. I don’t know why somebody would have argued that point.

I can tell you...if my mag goes past 1440...I will stop that dose. Ive already heard people’s mag climbing to 1600+. That’s ridiculous. Surely Triton doesn’t expect us to run mag levels that high and pretend that they’re not running out into space.

Cal and Alk is a different story. They should not run too far away from each other. However if my Cal goes past 450 and keep climbing I’ll have to terminate that dose as well or back it off.

Maybe in a perfect Triton world we can dose all parts equally, but from what I’ve seen and heard so far it’s not possible for a lot of reefers.
