Some math house fishtank setup

Decided it was fine outside of the stand, so I have more room under the stand for unsightly things. Really envious of those with basements

I think I’m about to give up on my skimmer. I can’t lower the sump level anymore, and it just never really got dialed in. Thinking about upgrading to a much bigger one anyways...... so I may do that vs fighting anymore with this one

My skunk cleaner shrimp lasted less than 24 hours. not good. Urchin, snails and crab are all doing great after 3 or so days. Hmm.

Also, I know it’s all new plumbing and all new tank , sump etc, but my skimmer was added on day 3 and has done nothing but dump frothy white foam and overflowing constantly since putting it in. I am hoping it is just an adjustment period. Skimmer was great in prior tank, so at least I know it was working properly before, and I don’t have to second guess assembly etc. I am leaving it in/on with cover off and just letting it overflow. Should I do anything else?
Everythin is looking great!
I just crank the skimmer output way down till it calms down. Also is it set to the correct depth in the water?

Set to correct depth. maybe even low. I guess I will mess with it a bit while I eat my fingernails awaiting the Browns’ game

I don’t know if it is the ink-bird temp controller thing, or the heater itself (both brand new) but my heater clearly isn’t kicking on. This is the second day of cool overnight temps, and sure enough........ I have a small backup heater too, which is set to much lower as a fail-safe, but it appears my ink-bird goes below the set-point with ease, and nothing changes.......

I set the temp at 78 (would like it at 77, but have been suspecting the heater not kicking on, so I have been testing)

This is right-now, as I check from work:

Jon finally made time to read thru your thread. What an adventure! I love the top!!! I hope you get the skimmer problem solved soon.

Thanks!

Skimmer is set almost 4 full inches more shallow than recommended, and it seems to finally be skimming like it had previously.

I guess I am on the clock now to figure out this heater issue, because we go from flip-flops to snow boots in Cleveland in the blink of an eye.

I am loving this Parrot-fish but WOW does it scare me!!!

It sits under the rocks at night (no big deal) but it kinda leans on its side..... looks ill etc. Then, 45 minutes after the lights come on it will FINALLY swim around and eat like a pig!

Either way, to-do list (to hold myself accountable!!!)

1: Put my lights on a timer/schedule........ have been manually turning on/off since setting up the new tank!!!

2: Get a UV sterilizer

3: Put Rescape/re-check Par (maybe?!?)

4: Serious wire-management. My cabinet is a factory of shame right now

5: Add a fish and up the CUC

Got this little (and I mean little!) fella all acclimated and happy. Been 3-4 days in tank, and he eats well and the flow hasn’t bothered him

I picked up (delivery soon) an Avast Mutiny V2 Ozone reactor, the SICC pump or whatever they suggested, the Carbon Post-filter, the Poseidon Ozone generator, and whatever else they said I needed!

I am long overdue for a full under-stand reboot and reorganization. My Apex display decided to die, so gotta figure that out, but just threw a lot of money at this thing to make clear water, so display replacement will have to wait

Update to follow!!!!!

Edit: I did add 40 snails and 30 hermits

Added a 6th Mp40

Thinking of changing the placement on them, but it’s a 2 person job..... Just too hard to reach etc and not drop them.

What you think is the biggest challenge for you to get this build to were you want it?

Other than myself?

I am trying to find a happy median with equipment doing the work, and a hands off approach. Monthly water changes. etc

But who am I kidding...... if I don’t have stuff to do to the tank I will get bored......

Today, for instance, I replaced the Bubble Magis Curve 5 elite with the Curve 9 Elite

Yeah know that feeling and I’m new to the hobby!!!

@Jon Fishman , who built your 96 x 20 x 16, how much did it set you back ($), and are you happy with the craftsmanship / customer service? Thanks!

Local shop in Cleveland made it, very happy. I think it was about $2,500

I kept changing things (overflow etc). and 3/4”

Thanks... I guess at 3/4” and Euro bracing you’re not seeing any bowing and don’t expect to. :) I like your dimensions; enjoy your tank!
