Some of my Acro Collection

Here I go down a rabbit hole again. I pulled out the microscope and looked at a few bottled bacteria. The only one I found to have any movement was zeobak. I have AF Pro Bio S on the way and not tested that one yet. I took a short video of a slide with just zeobak and another of the CRT concoction after 12 hours. There was a huge amount more activity in the CRT C.

I am very new to the microscopic world and really not sure what I am looking at. I will be doing lots more tests as my curiosity is exploding. We really need a micro biologist to chime in here.

One thing was the lack of any movement in most all bacteria bottles (I rather not name them). I let them sit for hours in tank water and still nothing. I fed them some zeozym, still nothing. I took timelapse videos, nothing.
Hopefully we have some biologists in here to help explain or defend these products a bit more.

My main concern is that most of these are just bottled up bacteria that can not handle the transport long or short term. If they are indeed dead then other questions or concerns can arise. One concern I have is that there is not enough (or any) "live" bacteria in some of these products and we are trying to culture them as food then it could increase the likelihood we culture an unwanted strain (possible pathogen) since there will be a lack of competition of beneficial bottled bacteria.

Again, I have no idea about the microcosm world. I would like to do a lot more tests but if there is some kind of risk I should worry about or I am doing it all wrong, please let me know. :grinning-face-with-sweat:

I finally got some Zeozym in and started up a concoction last night. It's been nearly 24 hours with constant bubbling and it really looks no different to me. It's just a cloudy gray color. I guess it smells a tiny stinky but I honestly didn't smell it last night to compare. I used MB7, zeozym, calcium carbonate, benepets food, BactoBalance, and Moonshiner's vitamins. Any advice?

Interesting…. I use zeobak in my concoction and the proof is in the pudding.. 1 month growth

@Troylee

Oh yeah. I still dosed it to my tank last night. Everything looks great.

Im just wondering if we can take this further. Reason why I have a microscope is because I have large cell dinos on my sand. One of the recommendations is to dose bacteria to outcompete. That does no good if its just dead bacteria but with CRT method I think we could supercharge many products.

Looks like zeozym is in stock and on sale at the moment on BRS. I just picked up a small jar.

For those looking for the recipe, its on Page 94.
feeding it every day?

Need to dose a carbon source too but mine basically looked like what you are describing. Mine was more grey than the reddish color CRT showed.

Bactobalance is a carbon source + traces. Thanks!

I took a sample just now and looked under the microscope and there's ton of little dudes zooming around just like in Moe's video, so I guess it's good to go! :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Wow! What an awesome video, keep me posted on how this works in your system. I think the other products may contain bacteria in a sporulated state, they'll need a carbon source to begin proliferating and a lengthy inoculation period as well. I'm not sure if the zeozym would work on dormant bacteria, perhaps try using some vinegar or molasses?

That's normal, the coloration in mine comes from the min S, benepets is more grey of a food.

I recommend to let rest for 8-12 hours before using and to use up the entire batch within 3-5 days.

What ingredients did you use in your batch?

I recommend to let rest for 8-12 hours before using and to use up the entire batch within 3-5 days.

What do you mean by rest? Stop the bubbling? I thought it was supposed to continuously bubble.

As in let it the mixture sit and bubble. Originally I did not aerate, and that was fine too.

Be mindful and do your best to maintain a clean/sterile work environment to minimize cross contamination

I used zeobak, zeozym, FM bacto therapy, TM elemi-np, Aquavitro Fuel, calcium carbonate, benereef, coral sprint, FM Min S, and AF liquid rotifers.

What I really want to do is try an make a mix with least amount of coral foods and aim for just a super potent bacteria dose to see if it can fight off dinos in the sand bed. I have about 1 day left on this concoction and will try to do just bare basics then take a peak.

What microscope are you using?
Since I’ve been doing this, my sand bed has stayed pristine! I hope it does the trick for you
