Today I received my new 100mm macro lens. It is a bit of a learning curve as almost everything now seems backwards.. lol Not sure how to explain that..

It is definitely trial and error here.. mostly error.. Thank God for the digital age.. at least I don't have to pay for the film and developing.. lol..

I have finally gotten a couple decent shots...

Large colonies are tricky with any macro lens as you're limited by depth of field.

You'll need to stop down and either bump ISO or increase light for the shot. Maybe both.
Do you have leeway to increase light? You only need to do it while taking the shot.

Not really.. I can bump the lights on the tank another 15% but that would be it. Only other things I can do would involve adjusting the camera settings and /or playing with the image in lightroom.

The new Lightroom AI Denoise would help with noise from higher ISO
