Hey guys earlier in the week I had an anemone shred itself in a gyre during the night, that same day I did water change as well as added carbon and have been doing water changes over the past couple days. The question I have is regarding this brown algae that keeps popping up on my rock as well as on my gyres some if I see it in my tank I will take the rock out and clean it off. It comes back but less and less each time do you guys know what this algae is called and am I doing the proper methods to get rid of it?

Can you provide more info about your system? Age, parameters, setup. Do you have pics? There are many types of brown algae and some aren’t even algae but are assumed to be so. Many ways to tackle different types.

Yes no problem sorry about that, it’s a red sea reefer 250. I bought the system used from someone that had it up for a year or two. I used the same sand during set up but did add Rock from my cycled tank that was running for three months or so. I have my parameters written down at home I don’t remember them. My fish are still doing great the little amount of corals I have look great also still

Common types for you to google on your own are:
Diatoms
Dinoflagellates
Brown film algae
Lobophora
Hair algae

Thanks a lot I just looked them up and with pictures I am still not sure the stuff in my tank is just on the surface and doesn’t have any sort of length to it at all
