Some sort of bulb feather duster??

I have had this hammer for a few month, not really any noticeable growth - but regardless it seems to be pretty happy throughout the day.

Today I picked it up and thought about removing the big bulky plug…when I can across this thing?
It id a bulb, no noticeable tube other than the bulb you see. However it does have what looks to be like feathers coming out of one end.

Anyone have any idea what this bulb looking thing is - it is at the base of my hammer right above the plug.

Looks like a pineapple sponge. Harmless! Usually white but that may be your lighting

sponge or tunicate ,carefully remove when taking hammer off plug .
