It's a common green/brown palythoa. Some people like them but they are considered invasive by most. So as said above if you choose to get rid of it aptasia x will work.

I decided to leave it be for now, thanks everyone! Will see if it multiples quickly if I like how it looks when there are more of them...then make a decision.

I like mine. They grow quite fast but easy enough to keep under control.

I also have a single polyp, like yours, on one of the other rocks - that has been a single polyp since I got my tank and never sprouted new ones.

I would recommend killing it before it propagates. I took the same approach in my tank and now I have a massive problem. They are attaching themselves to other corals, my glass, all over the rocks, they don't seem to need light . . . . .

Does anyone know if killing a Paly with aiptasia x would release palytoxin into the tank thereby killing other valued corals? From what I've been told by my LFS, scraping or damaging them or even stressing them will. Very interested to know because I have these hitchhiked also and have an indo-gold torch and organ pipe coral on the same rock. I also read articles that warn against the palytoxin going airborne with "out of tank" removal from rock by scraping or boiling, sending the household inhabitants to the hospital with respiratory and neurotoxin poisoning. Scary stuff!! The article recommends throwing the infected rock away whilst limiting contact (rubber gloves and safety shield). One of the LFS workers in Lafayette scraped a rock and glasswork of their showtank to remove unwanted palythoa subsequently blacked out-sent to hospital. Take heed and be careful, especially with infestation problems that will multiply the hazard.

I scrape the heck out of mine every few weeks to shape the growth pattern on the rocks. No other corals(besides the zoas/palys), fish or aquarists have been killed yet under this roof. I do run carbon in that tank though.
The variant you have is known to be the most poisonous and harbor the highest concentration of palytoxin, I would remove it before more grow and the palytoxin content is even greater. Zoas look just as cool if not cooler and have trace amounts or no palytoxin. It’s the greenish brown palys you gotta worry about.

That's what i got. Couldn't be some special calikid, cherry or jason fox. Not that lucky!
