In using the new Apex, there are a few things I've realized that could help solve issues for users:

1. Changing routers/wireless networks

It's possible that at some point you will get a new router, or perhaps change the SSID of your network. What happens to your Apex. Once the wireless network it's connected too ceases to exist, the Apex will be offline. To switch it onto the new network, you will need to do one of two things.

  • Before installing your new router, login to apex.local and select settings, the wireless icon and advanced. Manually type in the SSID of your new network and the password (usually found on the bottom of the new router).
  • Connect your Apex base unit to the new router via a Cat 5 network cable and complete the steps described above.

2. Issues when setting up wi-fi connection with multiple wireless networks

Some of us (myself included) have more than one wi-fi network in our homes. This is especially true if you're using a modem/wi-fi router combo unit as is often installed by ISP's (and required if you have cable service phone). Even when put into gateway mode, it's possible the router is still creating both a 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ wi-fi signal.

When setting up the new Apex, the Apex base unit will create it's own wi-fi network (ApexSetup) which users will need to connect their smart device (computer, phone, tablet) too. Once connected to Apex's network, you will access apex.local to program Apex to use your home wi-fi network. Once you've selected the network you want Apex to use, there is a hand off, where Apex disconnects from your smart device and accesses the network. For setup to successfully complete and to pair the Apex with Fusion, both the smart device and the Apex must be on the EXACT same wi-fi network. If during this handoff you're smart device connects to another network in the house (which it may be programmed to do) you will get a confusing connection error.

Since smart-devices are programmed to constantly scan for networks and grab the one with the best signal, it's possible if you have multiple networks that your smart device will grab another network (other than the one Apex is connecting too) screwing up your connection. Apex only connects to 2.4 GHZ network bands, so if you have 5 GHZ network bands, it's very likely your smart device will connect to 5 GHZ while Apex connects to 2.4 GHZ, making for a very confusing and frustrating connection issue.

I recommend telling your smart device to forget all other wi-fi networks other than the one you plan to connect Apex too. This way, it's impossible that during the hand-off your smart device will reach out to another network other than the one Apex is connecting too.

3. How to re-enter wi-fi set-up mode, reset and factory reset Apex:

If you have a wi-fi connection issue, it's likely your Apex will exit wi-fi setup mode (where the N logo glows blue) and simply enter the standard orange mode (the N logo glows orange). There is a small reset button on the base unit, that requires a paper clip to press. Pressing it for one (1) second simple power cycles the base unit. Pressing it for 5 seconds re-enters the wi-fi setup mode (where the N logo glows blue). Pressing it for 30 seconds factory resets the Apex back to its original out of the box settings.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info!

And most importantly do NOT buy it used , the chance of that is slim but u never know, because the warranty does not transfer and you WILL need it.

Actually do NOT buy it without the warranty new or used!
