I've heard that pencil urchins are NOT reef safe tho

They're known to chew through power cords and eat Caroline algae. Lettuce slugs are great, but usually get blended up by a circulation pump

Pencil urchins are not reef safe because they will eat threw anything and everything. It will literally strip the rock to white.
I didnt have any problems with mine in my reef. Maybe they eat sponge and lps eventually but i didnt exp that.

Small pincushion or tuxedo urchin. Both do a great job in a reef tank...... although, nothing is ever a reef safe guarantee.

I have a pincushion and he won't touch my GHA or turf algea......
