An animal rotates around around within the acro's broken piece and shoots out this web like thing. It quickly retreats into the acro when I put my hand in the tank. I'm not sure if it's a tentacle or if it's a pest. Has anyone had this kind of experience?

I was thinking vermetid too, but they don't move and don't react when things move in the water. Not sure what else it could be.

I'd just frag off that branch, dip it in coral dip, and see what comes out. If it clears out, then you have a shiny new frag to trade for something.

+1 - vermetid

Not a vermitid. I crushed it down some more and exposed the hole. A super tiny black hermit crab looking animal popped out. I tried putting my syringe into the hole of the acro and it popped back in.

Looks like a black body and a white mouth?

vermitid snail, glue it shut b4 they spread like crazy
It's not a vermitid snail, it pops in and out of the coral I'm wondering if gluing it shut will do anything...

I'm going to post a video to get a better look but you might be right... good or bad?

no idea, never had one lol

i just remembered some video where the guy was excited to get a wild colony of acro that came with an acro crab, he was happy about it if memory serves

Sure hope it's a good one. It's a pain in my butt right now lol. Dipped twice and no dice. Looks like a worm but when it moves it has it's claws... I think. The thing is roughly 2mm in size.

Could be a gall crab but I don’t think they fancy acros. Regardless, it’s got to go. Can you clip off the infested piece? Obviously it’ll die anyway and move on until all destruction is complete.

Gel glue should work although removal is Best

I had one in the center of my monti and it was just like that had a web looking stuff come out. So I put a very small piece of epoxy over the hole.
Mine looked like a very big vermetid snail. Get if off or glue it up !!

Will it not eat it's way out? Cutting it isn't an option unfortunately, A large chunk of the coral would be damaged and no frag

Seems everyone is sure that it’s a vermatid and the string-like net that’s shooting out looks like one. But I’ve never seen a vermatid embed itself in a coral. And you say it has claws which means it’s 90%, surely a crab. Some crabs live in corals. Acros, I’ve never heard of but wouldn’t be surprised. Clipping that piece off would be the only way to get rid of it or get ahold of it. Crabs are extremely hard to remove. Especially crabs that home themselves in corals as traps don’t work.

I was also considering just gluing the hole and letting it starve. What do you think?

Great idea. I’ve done that to crabs stuck in rock that I couldn’t remove. Make sure to get glue into the hole, not just cover it.
