something in the sand

I've been noticing these brown spots that have air bubbles inside them in my stand for about a month now any idea what it is

It's normal. It is pockets of detritus, bacteria, and even a smidge of cyano. I have this in my sand bed. You could add some sand sifting snails to help maintain the sand bed. This is part of the reason that it some people do not recommend using old sand. The gunk gets built up over time and can release ammonia which can trigger a cycle.
 
It's still normal. I worded my post wrong. I should have said re-used old sand in a new setup or disturb an untouched sand bed that has been established for a long time. Sorry about the confusion.
