Hey everyone I'm fairly new to reefing, I have had alot of freshwater tanks. I started slowly I have a refugium 20gal 10gal wet dry sump with a 60gal display tank. I have been adding small frags to the tank and I found d this critter on my what I believe to be a neon birdnest( please correct me if I'm wrong).

Welcome to reef2reef!!
Kinda looks like a chocolate chip sea star but can you get a clearer pic ?

Hello and welcome to R2R. I'm not sure what we are looking at. can you post a closer picture, or circle what you are seeing. From the pics you posted it looks as though you've got some tissue recession going on. Can you post your tank info, and test results?

I can try give me a second the birdnest polyps have been disappearing since it has showed up

It's on the frag itself it's black rim whitish center with what looks like a mouth

And thank you I've been reading these fourms for awhile and decided to take the leap

My water levels
Are ammonia 0
Phosphates .25-
Cal 430-450
Magnesium 1450-1480
Akl 8.0 -8.1
Nitrite 0
Nitrates 0

I didn't dip my corals, I know I should I've been reading that a wrasse or 2 will help eat any critters that came with.

!!! Welcome to R2R !!! Looks like a baby anemone. Also, the bird nest look like is bleaching. Check you water parameters. How long you have the tank cycle?

Looks like a nudibrach to me but I don't keep SPS so I don't know if it is one of the ones that eat them or not.

The tank has been running for about 5 months. I have gotten past my diatoms and now have Coraline (red, purple, and pink) spotting everywhere. When I cycled I used 2 4oz bottles of turbo start 900 and dosed a bottlwle of stability 2 weeks after.

Tough for me to get a really good ID on it from those pics, but I'm going with my gut that's telling me tunicate.

Is it hard or soft?

Its soft the dark spot in the with the little bristles close if you get close.my other corals are doing pretty good 2 zoa's and a neon star poylp. The birdnest is bleaching and polyps are disappearing and I'm woundering could this be the culprit

I still can't tell what it is either. Does it move from that spot at all? I doubt that it is what is causing the recession on the coral though. Your numbers look fine with the exception of the phosphates. try to get those down to .1 or lower (not 0 though. Usually .03 is good). What lights are you running?

I'm running a single china box 150watt full spec, planning on getting another because of the length of my tank. I haven't noticed it moving from that spot but I did notice how large it was. I recently found sponges in my tank so I was doing some looking and I notice how large it got. I put a skimmer in about 2 weeks ago it's the seaclone 100 I know it's not the best but it's skimming pretty will for me. I'm using the api to test ammonia and phosphate and red Sea to test akl Cal and mag

A few odd things have been happening. Just to quick go over I will be opening another thread. Currently I have
3 green chromis
4 yellow tail blue damsels
1 blue streak wrasse
1 yellow wrasse
1 flame hawkfish
1pipefish
2 clowns
Coral banded shrimp

Fish that went missing
3 firefish
2 manderain gobies
1 yellow watchman goby
And long nose how

The manderains I built the refugium for the copepods and have been dumping a bottle of copepods week for for 2 months and they ate brine shrip and frozen they ate well and we're fat. They turned white and died a day apart. Hawkfish no body
Gobies healthy one day past the next just didn't come out for food and found 2 bodies. I have a tight lid. IDK maybe gobies don't like me there beautiful though.
