Hello guys, I have a biocube 32 with everything stock. I do a 2.5 gallon waterchange every week with no dosing and no skimmer, im running chemipure blue at the moment. Ive been having an issue where my tank is very happy for 1-2 weeks, then things go suddenly south. All my mushroom spill their guts, ive lost 2 montipora caps in a matter of hours due to this mysterious problem. Im sure its something to do with my soft corals(gsp, xenia, kenya trees) but they always seem to kill my LPS and SPS. I lost a torch a month ago, and I recenlty bought a hammer/frogspawn coral which is going through the same thing this morning. Im at a loss guys, im running carbon on top of chemipure blue and the corals look better but the hammer has mysenterial filaments coming out everywhere. I made sure no corals are touching so I think there is some sort of warfare going on. Should I move the hammer to a lower light/flow for now?
What am I doing wrong?

This is what it looked like yesterday

Age of tank and parameters needed. A full tank shot would be nice. It sounds like your tank isn't quite ready or inhabitable for coral for whatever reason.

It looks like it’s not getting enough light. Translucent is not good. What lights did you put on your biocube?

Oh well that update pic makes things a bit different. I was picturing a slower death.

Is the hammer just receded or looking brown jellyish in the middle? If it's just receded, I'd give it an iodine dip. If it's BJD and stinky, it's probably a goner. I think some people have had success blowing it off and dipping and praying though.

well its a stock biocube 32 LED light, they are white lights which make them look translucent so there is no acintic at all in this picture

the skin on the stalk is receding, not the actual "coral/mouth" but there are alot of filaments on the tentacles, some of the tips look like they are blackish from where the filaments came out.

The tank is about 5 months old, still only have the basic reef test kit, so PH, AM, and salinity check out and are stable, i have a duncan in there and its doing fine, its fully expanded, my zoanthids closed though

If it's the stock BioCube lights... they're "challenging". You can't control the power level of the 3 different stages of light, only can control how long each stage is on. So if full light is on... it's bright... and white... and seems to have a decent amount of red in it. Algae seems to really like it.
Currently on my wifes Bio32 I have bright whites only on for a couple hours a day. But... she's more worried about softies and zoas.

It's been up about 10 months and she had some detours with it, but it's got it's act together finally.

Without stable water chemistry which comes from testing, even softies will die over time.
Maintaining appropriate nutrients levels and calcification parameters is a must.
Providing correct spectrum and intensity is a must.
When these two things are in check, anything you drop in will thrive.

What about preventing allelopathy from softies? I really think the kenya trees are giving off toxins because they are always still opened up when everything elses is looking bad, same with pulsing xenia
